Tenby's Mayor has asked for traders in the centre of the town to help with maintaining the cleanliness of the streets when they can.
Speaking at Tuesday night's meeting of Tenby Town Council, Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane said that if everybody who had a businesses in the town threw a bucket of water over the pavement outside their premises at the end of the working day, then it would help a great deal.
Clr. Mrs. Lane was responding to comments made by her colleague Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter who brought the matter up, as she felt that some days, the pavements and slabs were left in an awful state, especially when the markets and stalls were set up in Tudor Square.
"Unfortunately, the paving slabs are very porous and food and the like gets stuck in there so as we have had no rain for some time, I'd put a plea out to businesses to just throw a bucket of water down, which would make a great difference," she said.
Clr. Mike Evans said that Tudor Square was a victim of its own success and the sunshine.
"It's a beautiful place to sit and attracts a lot of people, with the amazing backdrop of the church, and the fountain and flowers to take in. We're very lucky to have such a stunning town centre," he remarked.
