The following matters were considered at the annual general meeting of Martletwy Community Council held in Lawrenny on May 9: Chair/vice-chair 2007-8: Roger Wood, outgoing chairman, thanked the members and clerk for their support over the past 12 months, during which the council had seen the successful conclusion of the 'Housing Needs Survey', continuing exchange of views about developments at Martletwy, the closure and re-opening of the Post Office and -more recently - the shop at Lawrenny, the possibility of a sustainable development of community facilities at Martletwy, and the commencement of works at the 'Bluestone' leisure development. Roger Rees was unanimously elected as chairman for 2007-8, with Gill Williams unanimously elected as vice-chair. Planning: An application for a boat workshop at Lawrenny Yacht Station was supported, as it should help to sustain local employment and support a significant local business, while it should also achieve some improvement of local amenity by the removal of a substandard building within the existing commercial enclosure of the Yacht Station. Highways matters: The community council complaint that the remedial works to the drainage on Burnetts Hill had been undertaken on the wrong side of the roadway had been acknowledged by the county council, who would now "monitor the site and complete any necessary works when the spring-water is visible." Next meeting: This w7ill be on Monday, June 4, at 7.30 pm, in Lawrenny Village Hall.
