A renowned photographer is visiting Tenby to offer the town a chance to be part of a unique photography project exploring Britain's eating habits. Martin Parr, who has famously captured the personal tastes and habits of Britons for more than 22 years, is touring the UK over the next four months with British institution Birds Eye as part of a study by the food brand to better understand what families do and eat at mealtimes. He kick-started the unique documentary survey of how Britain eats today in Tenby, yesterday (Thursday) and is actively seeking out people to be photographed for the project, whilst he's in the resort until tomorrow (Saturday). "It's going to be a fantastic voyage of discovery as we go into homes across the country to lift the lid on the many habits and customs people have around the food they eat," said Martin. As part of its 'Big Mealtime Audit' Birds Eye commissioned research to look at the way real people eat and interact at meal times. The findings found that almost a quarter (24 per cent) of people in Wales eat as often as 10 times a day and spend just 24 minutes on average around the dinner table. Almost a third of Welsh residents (30 per cent) eat breakfast on the commute and over half (53 per cent) enjoy midnight snacks. The most popular topics of conversation around the dinner table in Wales are celebrities, family and school. Margaret Jobling, Birds Eye marketing director, commented: "Mealtimes are still clearly the glue that holds families and friends together, even though the nation's eating and consumption habits have changed and we might not be sitting down for the traditional three square meals a day. "The research, combined with the Martin Parr study, will help us to understand and celebrate this as we're passionate about creating food that can be enjoyed every day by everyone." Martin's work and tour will be available to be viewed at an exhibition in London from September.
