Wildlife worker, Maria Evans, who was awarded an MBE in the New Year honours list, was invited to Buckingham Palace recently to receive her award.

Maria, who has been running Tinker's Hill Bird of Prey and Swan Rescue Centre in Amroth for the past 20 years with the support of her husband David, was made an MBE for services to animal health and wildlife conservation.

The centre was founded in the village of Martletwy, but moved to larger premises at Tinker's Hill Farm in Amroth, enabling Maria to expand the sanctuary's facilities and increase the number of birds they are able to take in, care for, treat and ultimately release.

She was presented with her MBE by Prince Charles.
