Maria Evans and Terry Leadbetter, both from Pembrokeshire, are among 11 Welsh people shortlisted for a local hero award on ITV Wales News. Maria (pictured), of Amroth, runs her own rescue centre for swans and other injured birds. Terry, from Milford Haven, runs the famous seal hospital locally, looking after orphaned seals washed up and stranded on the Pembrokeshire coast. They joined the other nine nominees for a viewers' vote which started on ITV Wales News on Tuesday. The viewers' vote will reduce the shortlist to five and a panel of judges will then select the winner on a special local heroes programme on ITV1 Wales on Tuesday, April 19, at 7.30 pm. The viewers will still get a say, however, as they can vote for their chosen candidate on ITV Wales News during the rest of the week. ITV has been searching for local heroes - people who make a big voluntary contribution to the life of their communities - as part of 'Wales On The Move', a campaign to get people fitter. The winning local heroes will be joining the campaign which is run in association with the Kellogg's Corn Flakes Great Walk 2005 from John O'Groats to Land End. ITV's local heroes will have the honour of carrying the baton during parts of the walk, which visits Wales in July and August. The campaign will culminate in an ITV National Walking Day on Sunday, September 18, which coincides with a week of celebrations marking ITV's 50th anniversary. To vote for Maria you can ring 09012 290200 and for Terry you can ring 09011 123443.
