A Pembrokeshire schoolgirl is top of the league after winning a national anti-racism competition. Mari Roberts won a competition aimed at combating racism in football with a winning poster design. The 10-year-old attended a prize-giving ceremony at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff last week along with her family and classmates from Brynconin School in Llandissilio. Her winning poster will be displayed throughout Wales next year and will also be reproduced as a calendar. The competition was organised by Show Racism the Red Card - an anti-racist charity, which specialises in conveying its message through the medium of professional football. Every year, it organises a competition in which all schools in Wales - primary and secondary - have the opportunity to take part. Schools watch a video, with pupils afterwards encouraged to produce a piece of artwork, poem, short story or video against racism, which is then entered into the competition. Debbie Wise, football development officer for Sport Pembrokeshire, the sports development arm of Pembrokeshire County Council, said, it was heartening to see football used as a force for good. "Mari and her school should be very proud." Mari won a Welsh football shirt signed by the Welsh squad, an opportunity to watch the team train before an international match, a framed certificate and a lap top for the school.
