Meet Margaret’s Milers - a group of individuals who have formed to participate at Cardiff Half Marathon on Sunday, October 1, 2017, raising funds and awareness of the charity Wales Air Ambulance.

Margaret’s Milers, was created by Andrew Jenkins from Narberth, after the Wales Air Ambulance crew attended to his mum, Mrs. Margaret Jenkins, after she suffered a massive heart attack, at the NFU office in Narberth on December 1, 2016.

The WAA crew, arrived on scene within 12 minutes of being scrambled from their base in Llanelli, and along with the professionalism of first responders and paramedics, they revived Margaret Jenkins, restoring a heartbeat and pulse.

The WAA crew, then flew Margaret to Morriston Hospital, Swansea, where despite the best efforts of the medical staff, Margaret tragically passed away, later on that afternoon.

As a thank you to the professionalism and dedication of the Wales Air Ambulance, Andrew made the decision to raise some money for the charity and in early 2017, posted an invitation upon Facebook, for his family, friends and colleagues to join him, in participating in the Cardiff Half Marathon.

Immediately, many of his friends and family, signed up to the cause, which was fantastic, however over the past two-three months, the number of people wishing to join Margaret’s Milers, and complete the half marathon course, has swelled to over 42 runners/walkers, which is a very pleasant, overwhelming figure.

Many of the team members (pictured), recently made the journey up to the WAA airbase in Llanelli, to talk with the fundraisers, volunteers, and meet with the helicopter crews and medics. It was a fabulous day out, and very informative, learning lots about the essential work that the crews carry out on a daily basis.

Margaret’s Milers, will be having memorial t-shirts produced, before the half marathon, emblazoned with some WAA logos and photos, a memorial photo of Margaret and the Justgiving fundraising address.

Margaret’s Milers will be involved in various fundraising events, leading up to the half marathon, including a car treasure hunt and disco, fun-days, cream teas and a danceathon.

If you would like to sponsor Margaret’s Milers, then sponsorship forms and collection boxes, can be found around many businesses in Narberth and surrounding areas, there is also a fundraising webpage www.justgiving.com/margaretsmilers

Andrew, and Margaret’s Milers, would be very interested in hearing from any businesses, organisations who may like to offer sponsorship, and have their logos added to the memorial t-shirt design.

They are hoping to raise a minimum of 10K.
