THE picture shows Clive Lewis, of Stonelea, New Hedges, presenting a cheque for £2,000 to Dr. P. K. Allen and Dr. Martin Mackintosh, with staff members of the Meddygfa Rhiannon Clinic in Northfield Road, Narberth.

This money has funded a Welch Allyn defibrillator and an Horizon centrifuge for the departments.

To date, Clive has raised £5,000-plus for his 12th long distance walks and aims to reach £6,000 to be in the position to purchase more desperately needed specialised diabetes and general machines and equipment for other clinics in the county.

Prior to the Narberth purchases, he has funded the Tenby Cottage Hospital with another £2,000 cheque from the same proceeds. This amount has purchased a semi-recumbent fitness cycle for their gymnasium.

Both Kirsty Gilling, the practice manager of Meddyfga Rhiannon in Narberth, and the rehabilitation co-ordinator in Tenby Cottage Hospital were so very pleased and grateful to Clive as they have really needed these machines for such a long time.

Clive completed the first phase of this event by covering parts of Snowdonia and two climbs to the Snowdon summit via the miners and the Llanberis footpaths. In March, he will trek along the Shropshire Union and Llangollen canal towpaths for the second phase.

Clive said: "Having met and chatted to many hundreds of great Pembrokeshire families, I have been overawed by the response I have received. The fun and the topics of conversations, not to mention the beautiful countryside I cover during each event, sponsorship and the enthusiasm and support just gets better. Of course, it is tough, demanding and time-consuming, but the rewards are well worth the effort. It has been a fantastic therapy for body and soul. I am so pleased I can do it. Many thanks to you all. I hope, God willing, I can continue."
