THE role of maps in aiding research will be the theme of the next meeting of the Pembrokeshire Affiliation of Local History Societies later this month.

County archivist, Claire Orr, will outline the importance of maps as an aid to local history research, as well as discuss the range of maps available at the County Records Office.

George Edwards, local and family history librarian, and other library staff will summarise the range of maps available at the Reference and Local Studies Library in Haverfordwest.

Maps highlighted will include Ordnance Survey, County Maps, Road Maps, Tithe Maps, Railway Maps and Geological Maps.

There will also be examples of the different types of maps available for members to see.

Sarah Kelly will speak about some of the local history projects being undertaken by PLANED during 2009 and how societies will be able to get involved.

The meeting takes place on Wednesday, February 25, at Haverfordwest Reference and Local Studies Library, at 6.30 pm.
