Saturday's fixture saw Manorbier take on league leaders Burton 2nds at their Sardis Road ground. Invited to bat by Burton, Manorbier took an immediate toll on Burton's opening bowlers. Opening batsmen Jeremy Smith and Mike May raced to 50 off only six overs, 40 coming in boundaries on a fast outfield.

Smith and May shared an opening stand of 90, before Smith was the first of slow-medium bowler Graham Morris's five wickets as Burton applied the brakes to Manorbier's run scoring.

Jeremy Smith's innings of 58 included a series of powerful drives and pull shots with 10 boundaries, before being caught at deep mid wicket.

May went on to score 75 runs - a 43-run partnership with number seven batsman Phil Kidney (24 not out) accelerated Manorbier up to a large innings total, before May was well caught at deep mid on.

A huge six from Justin Evans off the penultimate ball took Manorbier to a formidable 203 for 7 off their 40 overs.

In response, Burton never really kept up with the run rate, and lost wickets fairly steadily. Justin Evans got an early breakthrough, and eventually picked up 4 for 28, backed up by John Davies with 3 for 34 and Jeremy Smith with 2 for 25.

Burton, however, hung on for a draw, reaching 140 for 9. P. Bevan top scored with 37, with S. Gale (30), G. Morris (22) and captain Roy Griffiths (18) making double figure scores.

It was a welcome 23 league points for Manorbier, while Burton picked up eight.
