A group of Manorbier mums has risen to the challenge of raising more than £30,000 to rebuild their community playpark.

The park equipment at Skrinkle in Manorbier has come to the end of its life and is set to be removed by the county council later this year. So now the parents and friends of the 150 children who live on the estate have got together to try to replace the slides and swings.

“The park is the central hub for us - not all of our children are at the same school - and it’s also where the parents come together,” said David Jones, a parent and member of the Save Our Skrinkle Park campaign.

“If it was taken away, then where are all the children going to go and what will they do?”

The county council has agreed that if the group can raise the £30,000-plus needed to re-equip the park, then they will take over the maintenance and insurance of the facility.

The group is in the process of setting itself up as a charity and supporters have already raised £300 by taking part in the Long Course Weekend bike ride. They are also being supported by Simon Hart MP who has been to visit the park.

“There is such a tremendous community spirit in Skrinkle that I am sure that if anyone can reach this total then they can,” he said. “I will offer them what support I can to keep this vital asset going.”
