West Wales Under 16 girls league leaders Manorbier took on second place Landor on a bitterly cold Sunday morning.

Landor put Manobier under pressure straight from the start, looking lively and dangerous. However, it was Manorbier who came closest to scoring, with two superb saves from Landor 'keeper Jade Oates keeping out two excellent strikes from Sam Lewtas.

Landor's pressure eventually paid off with a well-taken goal after 15 minutes. They began to pepper the Manorbier goal with shots and after 25 minutes were 3-0 up. Good work by Hannah Lewis on the left gave Mari Griffiths a couple of opportunities, only to see the shots go wide of the upright.

A stiff word from coach Gerry Rigby at half-time worked wonders as Manorbier pulled one back through Hannah Lewis within two minutes following some excellent one touch football, and suddenly it was game on.

As so often happens, Manorbier, pushing up, left themselves exposed at the back and Landor managed to get a fourth.

To be fair to Manorbier, this didn't put them off and two goals from busy midfielder Angharad James brought the score to 4-3.

A very tense last 10 minutes could have gone either way, but Landor managed to get the ball into the net once more for a well deserved 5-3 win.

A dejected Gerry Rigby said: "We have an incredibly gifted bunch of players here which is why we're top of the league, but unfortunately we only have the bare 11, so if someone is injured or unavailable, as was the case for this match, then we're down to 10 and, although we've beaten teams with nine, you can't expect to do that against the likes of Landor.

"We really need more players; it's an exciting time for Manorbier having received national league status, so girls have a real chance of developing and playing at a higher level."
