Manorbier Ladies football teams had great success once again when they competed in the Midlands premier six-a-side ladies' football tournament recently.

Held near Stratford-upon-Avon, Manorbier entered two teams to take on good quality, competitive teams drawn from Manchester, Oldham, Staffordshire, Stratford and Birmingham.

Playing in a 'round robin' system, the 'A' and 'B' Manorbier teams played against each other in the opening match, with the game finishing in a draw.

As they battled through subsequent matches, the possibility loomed that they may have to face each other again in the knock out stages, but this didn't happen when the 'B' team were beaten by a breakaway goal in the semi-finals after dominating most of their match.

No such problems for the 'A' team who got to the finals where they faced the local side, Marston Green.

This proved to be quite a match, with fortunes going one way and then the other, but Manorbier showed all their resilience in winning the final with a late goal from an inspired Molly Furnival-Doran. This was especially fitting as Molly is off to college after the summer, and this was to be her last game for the club. There are a number of other players who are leaving also, and they, like her, will be greatly missed by everyone.

This was not a one player effort, though, as all the players gave everything for their respective teams, playing some sparkling football along the way.

The team now has a rest until July 1 when they resume training ready for the Aberystwyth tournament in late July, followed by friendly games in August against Aberystwyth Town and a North Wales representative side, before the start once again of the Ladies Premier League, and domestic West Wales leagues, in September.
