THERE have been some significant changes in recent weeks at Tenby's De Valence Pavilion, with a trustee departing just as the Trust celebrated its first birthday, and three new members of staff joining the establishment. The first of the new members of staff, Tracy Williams, is the new director of the town's Arts and Community Centre. She started her new job on March 21 and has been very busy since then in developing a programme of events and activities for the summer. Tracy was born and brought up in Pembrokeshire, but most recently has been working for Reach Inclusive Arts in Wiltshire, providing arts projects to enable disabled people to be involved in the artistic and cultural life of the community. She now lives with her partner in Jeffreyston. The second new recruit was Angela Beynon, known to all her friends as 'Fergie', who has joined the staff as cleaner. Fergie is already well-known at the De Valence, having worked extensively as a children's entertainer at the popular family nights. She will continue to do this during the De Valence's summer season. The third new member of staff is Christine Brown, who becomes house manager, responsible for front-of-house services, security, and management of the bar and catering. Christine has been a trustee of the De Valence since its inception, representing the town council on the board, and has been managing the bar and other front-of-house services on a voluntary unpaid basis for most of that time. The trust decided a couple of months ago that it should not indefinitely rely on voluntary labour for a key part of its business, and decided to advertise the post of house manager. Christine resigned from the board at the end of last month in order to apply for the post, and was selected last week. It is understood that the town council will decide next month on a replacement for Christine on the board of the De Valence Trust. On behalf of the De Valence Trust, chair Mike Thorne told the Tenby Observer: "We are delighted to welcome these new members of staff, and look forward to the contributions they will undoubtedly make to our enterprise. "We were sorry to lose Christine as a valued trustee, but welcome her back in her new role. We are now getting ready for a busy summer season, and hope that the programme will be well-supported by the community as well as our visitors."
