A man who was stopped in Maenclochog by police and found to be in possession of cannabis has been given a 12-month conditional discharge by magistrates in Haverfordwest. Forty-three-year-old John Thomas, of Gwaun Valley, Fishguard, pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing 13.7 grams of cannabis when he appeared at Haverfordwest court on Tuesday. Prosecutor Mr. Peter Lloyd told magistrates that police stopped the defendant while he driving his Ford Transit vehicle in the village of Maenclochog on June 7, and found a 'reefer' in his possession. "Officers checked the home of Mr. Thomas and found an amount of herbal cannabis with a street value of £130 on the premises," explained Mr. Lloyd. The defendant's solicitor, Mr. Jonathan Webb, told the court that his client had been co-operative with police officers throughout the process and that he used cannabis medically, as opposed to recreationally, as he persistently suffered with back pain. Magistrates gave Mr. Thomas a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered the destruction of the drugs. He was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £15 victim surcharge.
