A joint Coastguard, RNLI operation was undertaken at 1400 hours on Friday 22nd July to recover a 29 year old man from the cliff on the North East face of Giltar Point. He had dialled 999 to convey his plight to MRCC Milford Haven Coastguard when he became trapped on a steep grass slope leading down the cliff to a rock outcrop where he had intended to fish. His position became more precarious as he started to slip on the wet grass.

Tenby and St. Govan's Coastguard Rescue Teams and Tenby Inshore Lifeboat were tasked to the incident and the RNLI Lifeguards on Tenby South Beach reported proceeding to the Penally end of the beach to observe.

While the Coastguard cliff teams were transiting to the location, the Tenby ILB crew located the man's position and directed the cliff teams to a position above the trapped man. The cliff rescue equipment was set up and CRO Dai Robins of the Tenby CRT was lowered to the man's location and secured him in a rescue strop. Both were then lowered to the rock outcrop at the cliff base, where the ILB crew recovered them into the ILB and landed them on the beach. The grateful man from Cardiff was on holiday in the area and unscathed from his ordeal, though suffering from a medical disorder which caused his predicament.
