Following a 999 call from a member of the public, Tenby and Manorbier Coastguard rescue teams evacuated a 23-year-old man from the base of Saundersfoot harbour wall last Friday evening.
The man had decided to leap from the top, assuming there was sufficient water beneath to break his fall, when the actual depth of water was only around two inches.
Injuries sustained were suspected to be fractures to both legs and both feet.
The casualty had to be moved twice due to the incoming tide before being taken away on a stretcher to a Coastguard vehicle, then to an awaiting ambulance for transit to Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest.
The young man was from Ebbw Vale.
