A man who was out celebrating his birthday was assaulted in an 'unprovoked attack', magistrates sitting in Tenby heard on Tuesday.

Appearing before the court, Sean William Henry Attewell admitted wounding a Thomas Scott James by punching him and biting him on the nose in Saundersfoot on March 22.

As a result of the incident, Mr. James attended at Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest, and received stitches above and below his eye. He also suffered minor cuts, a swollen eye and blurred vision, crown prosecutor, Mr. David Weale, told the court.

"He (Mr. James) has no idea why the incident occurred," Mr. Weale pointed out, adding that Attewell, who had been out with his girlfriend and had consumed 10 pints of lager, had a "very vague recollection of what had occurred."

The court heard that Attewell, of Flat 6, Green Acre Court, Kilgetty, was in breach of a community service and a binding over order, and as a result reports were ordered by the bench before he is sentenced.

The case was adjourned for three weeks until May 7 for the reports to be made and Attewell was warned that the magistrates were keeping all their powers of punishment open.
