As we were going to press yesterday (Thursday), police were continuing to question a man on suspicion of murdering a 66-year-old woman in South Pembrokeshire.
The body of Angelika Dries-Jenkins was found at her home in the Providence Hill area of Narberth on Friday, two days before her 67th birthday.
Following a post mortem examination conducted by a Home Office pathologist, police confirmed she had sustained 'substantial head injuries'.
"There does not appear to have been a sexual motive," said a police spokesman.
Officers have not confirmed what the murder weapon was.
A 54-year-old local man was arrested on Tuesday and remains in police custody while inquiries continue.
A key part of the investigation focuses on the victim's champagne/gold/beige Skoda Fabia motor car which was taken from her home address.
The car, registration GP05 LNY, was found in St. Thomas Green, Haverfordwest, at approximately 1 pm on Saturday.
Detective Superintendent Pam Kelly, the senior investigating officer, said police had already received vital information from the public.
She said: "I appeal for members of the community who saw any suspicious activity in the area or the vehicle since June 3, to come forward as they may have vital information which could assist in the investigation.
"We know that vehicle travelled in the Narberth and Haverfordwest area during the past week.
"I would like people to help me because I need to know who has been driving that vehicle and who has been in that vehicle.
"We clearly want people in the St. Thomas Green area who may have seen this car last week to come forward as it may have been there for some time."
Dyfed Powys Police reassured the local community that these offences are extremely rare and the county remains one of the safest places to live in England and Wales.
At a press conference on Monday, Chief Superintendent Dean Richards, divisional commander for Pembrokeshire, said he understood people may be frightened and concerned, but that there were extra officers on patrol.
Anyone with information that might help the investigation is asked to contact Dyfed-Powys Police on 101.
Family's emotional tribute to 'quiet and gentle' mother
The family of Angelika Dries-Jenkins issued an emotional and moving tribute to her on Monday, in which they described her as 'a quiet woman with tremendous heart, spirit and fun'.
In the statement issued through Dyfed-Powys Police, they said: "Our mother was a quiet woman who led, as she herself said, a quiet life. She cherished her family and friends and where she loved, she loved deeply and with tremendous heart, spirit and fun.
"Over the last two years she fought against and overcame serious illness. She wanted to live.
"The violent nature of our mother's death is in all too horrible a contrast with the way in which she lived her life. Quietly and gently.
"We know many people in the county are grieving the loss of those who died and or were injured in this week's explosion in Pembroke. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go to the families and friends of those involved, as our mother's would too.
"She loved Pembrokeshire. This year would mark the 40th anniversary of her first coming here on her honeymoon, and choosing it as her home and the place to raise her family. She could not have imagined living anywhere else.
"We are asking the people of Pembrokeshire, and the community of Narberth in particular, to please assist the police in whatever way they can. Even if you think it is too small to mention or to be of use, please do not hesitate; we need you to come forward."
Police in attendance at council meeting
The police were in attendance prior to the commencement of Narberth Town Council's monthly meeting on Tuesday to talk to council about the murder of Mrs. Angelika Dries-Jenkins and to inform them of the latest developments.
Community shocked
The community of Narberth has been shocked and saddened by the tragic events.
Mayor of Narberth, Clr. Mrs. Elizabeth Rogers, said she knew the victim who used to visit the flower shop in the town where she worked.
"She was a quiet lady and the town is shocked at the loss of one of their own," said Clr. Mrs. Rogers.
