A man from Pembroke Dock has been given a conditional discharge after pleading guilty to possessing cannabis.

Twenty-three-year-old Liam Alex Beard, of Military Road, Pennar, pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing 2.55 grammes of cannabis resin, at Haverfordwest magistrates court on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Ellie Morgan told magistrates how on July 3, at around 9.15 pm, members of the public contacted the police after witnessing the defendant crossing a road dangerously in Pembroke Dock.

"The defendant was reported as causing a danger to himself as well as others, and when officers located him, he couldn't speak and smelt of alcohol," Ms Morgan explained.

As Mr. Beard was unable to provide his name and address, he was searched for ID by officers, who then discovered the cannabis on him.

"He said he didn't have a clue where he got it from, as he didn't remember much about that night, but accepts that he probably bought the cannabis when he was drunk," continued Ms Morgan.

The defendant's solicitor said that his client, who had recently received a suspended sentence order at Swansea Crown Court, for supplying cannabis, was addressing his drug issues under a rehabilitation requirement that formed part of that order.

Magistrates gave Mr. Beard a 12-month conditional discharge, and ordered him to pay costs of £85 and a £15 victim surcharge.
