A Pembrokeshire man accused of murdering a 52-year-old woman in Pembroke Dock last month has died in prison.

Fifty-two-year-old Lisa Fraser was found dead at a house on Military Road in Pennar, on Friday, May 13.

The man charged with her murder, forty-one-year-old Matthew Harris, from Barn Court, Haverfordwest, was also charged with threats to kill, robbery, and criminal damage to a property in nearby Neyland.

He appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on May 16, and before Judge Paul Thomas QC at Swansea Crown Court the following day.

He was due to appear at Swansea Crown Court for plea and trial preparation on, Monday, June 13, but it was revealed that days after the defendant was remanded into custody at HMP Long Lartin, near Evesham in Worcestershire, he was found to have hanged himself in his cell.

Mr Harris had been due to enter his plea to murder at Crown Court, but following his death the case can no longer be tried.

Judge Thomas QC ordered that Harris' death be noted on the case file.

A statement from Dyfed-Powys Police said: “We can confirm that we are aware of the death of Matthew Harris at HMP Long Lartin in South Littleton, near Evesham, which has been referred to the coroner in Worcestershire.

“Specially trained officers have updated the family of Lisa Fraser and the Pembrokeshire Coroner has also been informed.”
