Sir,
I am concerned about the pedestrianisation survey form sent to properties within the town walls. The PCC have explained to me that the circulation of the form was specifically to the very few people ‘directly affected’ by the closure of the town during the summer months - those inside the walls. This is a very limited catchment. People outside the town walls are directly affected - tradespeople, and those involved in normal deliveries and the sort of activities that one could expect in a town - visitors to the church, the banks, and so on.
Question 2 asks if we would like to see the scheme made permanent and questions 3 and 4 ask what the respondent thinks of an extension to the scheme - to include all school holidays?
I would argue that this alarming prospect would contribute further to the running down of the Tenby as a normal trading centre, benefiting only those with interests in street food and and alcohol - the so-called cafe society. The principal driver, as I understand it, has interests in Tenby’s pub trades.
It has been proven that there is and never has been a safety issue - police report very few accidents over the years. Are we now to further discourage those aged and infirmed from getting in and out of the town?
The council say they have made the information available on their website, Twitter and Facebook. This is an appeal to all readers to write directly to PCC Policy at County Hall and make your views heard - and stop the extension of the scheme.
Murray John,
St. Mary’s Street,
Tenby.
