A call for all businesses, hospitality providers and residents to dig out their gardening tools and start planning their colourful floral displays for this year's Tenby in Bloom and Wales in Bloom competitions has been made this week.

Committee members of Tenby in Bloom, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, are hoping for a bumper number of entries to ensure the resort is in full bloom for not only their own special year, but also the town's 600th charter anniversary and HM The Queen's Golden Jubilee.

"Last year we had a record number of 70 entries and the committee are looking to exceed that number this year," said a spokesman for the group this week.

Whilst commending the number and standard of entries from outside the town walls as excellent last year, the committee have expressed concern about the views of the judges in both competitions that they were 'disappointed' at the lack of support from people in the Tudor Square area.

"We are, therefore, hoping that the businesses within the town centre will support us this year and help the town to retain the title of the best small town trophy," the spokesman added.

Sponsored by Shearings Holiday Hotels, Tenby in Bloom takes place between July 8 and 15, with judging on July 9.
