Council-owned homes and gardens in Monkton have had a makeover, thanks to Pembrokeshire County Council. Outdoor improvement works have been taking place at all properties in Gwilliam Court and flats at Colley Court and Tenby Court - at an average cost of £5,500 per property. "The aim was to give council tenants an outdoor space which they could use and be proud to maintain," said County Councillor for Monkton, Pearl Llewellyn. "The initial impact is very good and the change in the appearance of the estate has been greatly improved. "The complete success however does rely heavily on tenants to maintain these gardens to the high standard at which they were constructed." Clr. David Simpson, cabinet member for housing and regulatory business, said the aim is to improve housing conditions for council tenants. "This is part of estate improvement works to bring homes up to the Welsh Housing Quality Standard - a standard set by the Welsh Assembly Government to make sure that homes in Wales are of a minimum standard," he said. The works at Monkton are part of an ongoing improvement programme, which will incorporate Colley Court, Tenby Court, Ramsden Court, Haven Court and Longmains. The project has been designed and supervised by the building maintenance department at Pembrokeshire County Council.
