The chair of Tenby in Bloom has reiterated the difficulties of maintaining the town’s high floral standards without spending as much to members of the the town council.

Discussing budgets and planning for next year’s floral displays at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane the chair of the ‘In Bloom’ organisation told members that people’s first impressions of the town were vital to the economy, but ahead of a meeting this week with Pembrokeshire County Council’s environmental services operations manager Neil McCarthy, she welcomed any new ideas for the planning ahead, as they would be once again working with tighter budgets.

“Tenby In Bloom is working with Pembrokeshire County Council on trying to enhance things and pull together on a tighter budget,” she said.

“It’s important that people know that Tenby In Bloom is separate to the town council who are purchasing flowers and paying for the watering, but we have got to look at cutting costs further with all the other services the town council is being asked to supplement.

“We are all aware that as PCC own the gardens that they could turn around at any time and say they are no longer doing anything and close the gates to gardens - that could happen at any time!

“So any ideas would be gratefully received - as to the type of plants and flowers we can plant to maintain the standard without spending as much

“It is very important that TTC has supported Tenby in Bloom over these gardens and beds, and it’s important for the town and the future of the resort,” she continued.

Clr. Lane welcomed sponsorship from any local organisations such as what the Masons were already financing with planting at the War Memorial gardens covered for a five year period, and the Tenby And District Lions sponsoring The Green.

The town clerk Andrew Davies said that a further meeting with Mr. McCarthy would take place this week, who had indicated that he needed to order bedding plants for next year now.
