Manorbier Castle sits in beautiful countryside, within the Pembrokeshire National Park. Families can spend a day exploring the 12th century castle, church and unspoilt beach, or stroll along the Coast Path to get breath-taking views.

The castle's position on the hilltop commands stunning views, especially if you climb the Round Tower. A short walk from the car park, which is conveniently situated between the beach and castle, and the entrance to the castle becomes visible.

A walled garden beckons you in, where you can sit and admire the flowers and listen to the atmospheric music, or have a picnic, before wandering around the Great Hall, chapel and turrets. Life size models are on display in different towers. These create a wonderful impression which will transport you back in time.

The magical feel to the castle inspired the BBC to film scenes for 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' here.

The castle was the birthplace of Giraldus Cambrensis, Gerald of Wales, one of the finest Latin writers of the Middle Ages. He once wrote that Manorbier is the 'most pleasant spot in Wales.'

Manorbier was once a fortified manor - a productive valley with farming, fishing and families all centred around the castle. Outside to the north are the remains of a mill and a well preserved dovecote which you can walk into.

Within the walls lived privileged nobles; the church and villagers were there to serve their needs. This once fortified manor has a private residence within the walls, and was built on an old dwelling in the 18th century.

Before you leave, visit the gift shop, once the guardhouse, which offers a wide variety of souvenirs and ice-creams.

Combined with a visit to the beach, Manorbier Castle will make a wonderful day out for all the family.
