They may be overlooked and under-appreciated, but traffic roundabouts are a vital part of today's modern highways.
Now two of Pembrokeshire's finest are featuring in an unique calendar dedicated to the glory of traffic islands.
The Pump House roundabout at Pembroke Dock and Fishguard Square's cannon island are among 12 of the best included in the new Roundabouts of Wales 2012 calendar.
And the Pump House traffic island even features on the front cover!
Photographer Paul Davies travelled the length and breadth of the country to choose his favourite traffic islands for the calendar, which has been produced by the UK Roundabout Appreciation Society.
"We have all agreed that the standard of Welsh traffic islands in this 2012 publication are the best they have ever been," said a spokesman for the society.
"Our main problem with this roundabout calendar was which ones to leave out!"
Brian Maddocks, Pembrokeshire County Council's head of maintenance, said he was really pleased that someone had taken notice of these often overlooked traffic icons.
"Pembrokeshire County Council's maintenance department looks after and is responsible for the upkeep of all the county's roundabouts - from the flower bedecked to the blocks of concrete," he said. "It's nice to have some recognition."
