Where could you have heard a ukulele group, pop rock, Pink Floyd and a mixed choir all at the same venue on the same night? Well it took place at the Torch Theatre at an event organised by Mandy and Nigel Taylor on behalf of Pembrokeshire Macmillan fundraising group.

First on stage were the Jumping Fleas, a ukulele group from Haverfordwest, they were joined by the mini fleas who certainly put a smile on the faces in the audience. Next to entertain us were the Stackpole Singers, whose rendition of Barafundle Bay brought tears to a number of eyes. They were followed by Savanah, a pop and rock group and after the interval, the evening rounded off with Jack Sound delivering some stunning Pink Floyd anthems from Dark Side of the Moon, including the well- known number one hit ‘Another Brick in the Wall.’

On the night, the theatre was packed with every seat taken and the audience were fully entertained from the first curtain to the last. Our volunteers from Pembrokeshire Macmillan would like to thank all the groups and singers who gave their time free of charge, Milford Haven Port Authority for their financial support and a fantastic array of raffle prizes kindly donated by local companies.

Our volunteers, led by Monica Vanner sold raffle tickets and programmes with all the money raised going to the charity. There was a silent auction for a day out for four people at Ffos Las race course and the winner of the lucky programme number will enjoy a Sunday lunch for four at St. Brides in Saundersfoot.

During the interval, chair of the Pembrokeshire MacMillan fundraising group, Pauline Davies, thanked Mandy, Nigel and Monica for their help and enthusiasm in making the event such a huge success. She also thanked the artists, the theatre staff, the companies who donated prizes and of course everyone who bought tickets for the event.

Over £5,000 was raised on this very special night.

Pauline informed the audience that all the money would go towards helping people living in Pembrokeshire with a cancer diagnosis and throughout their cancer journey. Donations would also support the MacMillan Nurses, the information centre at Withybush Hospital and providing patient grants for people and families needing financial support when going through cancer treatment.

Macmillan Rocks Pembrokeshire certainly kept up to its programme billing as ‘an evening of music and fun.’
