The Narberth committee, Pembrokeshire committee, and the Saundersfoot, Tenby and District committee of Macmillan Cancer Support all shared the collection for Macmillan Cancer Support which took place at Morrisons Supermarket in Haverfordwest from December 8 to 14.
Shoppers were most generous and the excellent total of £5,307.09 was raised. This was slightly up on the 2007 total and was especially gratifying in the current financial climate.
Macmillan continues to help cancer patients and their families in many different ways. This reflects how many more people are now living with cancer. Macmillan provides not only its trademark Macmillan nurses, it funds other specialist nurses and doctors, buildings for cancer treatment and care, grants for patients in financial difficulties, benefit advice for cancer sufferers, educational projects and information services.
All money raised locally for Macmillan is sent to their South and West Wales Appeal.
Recently, new specialist doctors and nurses have been funded. Other vital professional roles and services will follow, thanks to this appeal.
Macmillan Cancer Support's services are free and are funded almost entirely through the generosity of supporters.
The three committees send sincere thanks to all at the Morrisons head office and to the staff at the store in Haverfordwest for giving them this valuable opportunity to raise vital funds. They also thank the collectors who gave their time, and the very generous public who raised this excellent total.
