Mrs. Lottie Hartard, of Begelly, has won the first prize of £8,000 in the WRU Lottery in what one Narberth committee man described as a "sub editor's dream." Her win continues the winning streak amongst Narberth supporters in the WRU Lottery and amongst supporters from other clubs in Pembrokeshire who have drawn big prizes in the competition.
Mrs. Hartard has been buying WRU Lottery tickets each month for at least four years and was thrilled with her good fortune.
Speaking at the recent presentation ceremony, she said: "I was amazed and very thrilled when I heard the news about winning first prize and it did not sink in for a while. In fact, I did not really believe the news until the cheque for £8,000 was handed over by Narberth club secretary Tony Jones and Peter Barrett at the presentation ceremony."
Continuing Lottie Hartard, a keen amateur photographer, said: "I will use the money to purchase a nice digital camera, as I enjoy taking photographs of the beautiful scenery in Pembrokeshire."
Narberth WRU Lottery organiser Peter Barrett said "the club was delighted to hear the news that Lottie Hartard had won the first prize in the February draw as she has been a loyal member of the Narberth scheme. Lottie is the fifth member of the Narberth scheme to win the first prize of a VW Polo car or the cash equivalent."
Continuing, he said: "It is also good news for the scheme, as each time a member of the Narberth scheme wins, it encourages new members to join up and pay the monthly contribution of £1 per ticket. As well as the first prize of £8,000, there are other top cash prizes.
"The last time a member of the Narberth scheme won the first prize in April 2001, other members won the second prize of £2,000 and the third prize of £1,000 in what was believed to be the first time that members of one club had scooped the first three prizes in the competition."
The WRU Lottery has helped to keep leading Welsh players in Wales whilst clubs in the lower divisions also benefit from the proceeds of the lottery.
