Local councillor and environmental enthusiast Trevor Hallett is hoping that a rare discovery in his garden this week will bring him some good luck!

As if by magic, Clr. Hallett appeared at the Observer offices on Monday with a collection of four and five leaf clovers - a rare variation of the common three-leaf clover.

According to traditional superstition, such clovers bring good luck, though it is not clear when or how that superstition got started - however, Clr. Hallett did say that he would be sure to follow the next rainbow he saw overlooking Tenby to see what was at the end of it!

Each leaf on the clover is said to represent something - the first is for faith, the second for hope, the third for love, the fourth for luck and the fifth for wealth.

“It’s very rare to hear of anyone mentioning that they’ve found a four-leaf clover, let alone a five-leaf one,?I?don’t know of anyone...unless they’ve kept it a secret of course!” said Clr. Hallett.

“It could be that the strange weather and drought that we’ve had has had some effect on my garden,” he added.

Roughly one in 10,000 clovers has four leaves and, although no official figures exist to demonstrate how rare a five-leaf clover is, some sources say you have just a one in 20,000 chance of finding one.
