Members of the Lower Landsker Trefoil Guild have enjoyed a varied and interesting start to 2024.

The first meeting in January saw members gather at the new home of member Liz to enjoy a delicious afternoon tea. The tea was prepared by Yorkshire member Lindy, who just happened to be visiting and who just happens to be a superb baker.

Members enjoyed getting together, admiring the new abode, including the luxurious greenhouse, and catching up with Christmas news. Members remembered with sadness, Tom, who had passed away in December, and who was the husband of Chairman Margaret, and a good friend to Trefoil.

There was also joy, as on Christmas Day, Lydia, niece of Margaret had given birth to Mali, who will surely become a Rainbow, Brownie, Guide and , maybe, one day, a Trefoil member.

Later that month, 11 members travelled to Milford Haven where, after a lovely lunch in Foam, they went to the Torch theatre cinema to see Antony Hopkins and Johnny Flynn in One Life, the film telling the story of Sir Nicholas Winton and the kindertransport. All found it superbly acted and very moving.

February saw the Annual General Meeting where Chairman Margaret reported on a very successful year celebrating not only Trefoil’s 80th birthday but the centenary of Brownies and Guides in Tenby. Barbara Pegg was thanked for compiling a wonderful memory book giving a comprehensive picture of the many activities enjoyed over the year. The chairman, secretary and treasurer were re-elected and plans were made for 2024 including a trip to Portsmouth for four members to attend the Trefoil UK AGM.

To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the RNLI member Nicole , also an RNLI volunteer gave a talk at the March meeting on the history of Tenby lifeboat and of the people associated with it over the years.

Member Liz brought an interesting article telling of the 200 years of service of her great grandfather and brothers, the famous Hooper family.

It was interesting to hear other members join in with their memories, reinforcing what Nicole said at the beginning of her talk, that Tenby is, most definitely, a lifeboat town.

Plans for future months include trips to Stackpole, Caldey and Llys y Fran as well as a get together with Trefoil members in Haverfordwest. Of course the Wednesday walks will continue, and everyone is hoping that the weather will improve and the walks will progress past the nearest coffee shop!
