Loveston Community School celebrates 125 years of education at the school as part of their programme for the end of this term. The celebration is nostalgic in many ways, because the pupils of the school are amalgamating with pupils from Jeffreyston VC school as from September 1, and both Loveston and Jeffreyston school buildings will be known as the Loveston and Cresselly sites of the new St. Oswald's VA School.
Pupils will be celebrating by dressing in Victorian costume and recalling some of the facts about their school during the ages. There will be a display of photos and memories by past and present pupils. Home-made sweets will be on sale and refreshments and a barbecue will be held in the school grounds, weather permitting. The celebration on July 19 begins at 1.30 pm.
Mrs. Anne Cole, headteacher of Loveston, who is currently on secondment, will also be retiring at the end of the school year. Mrs. Cole has been one of the longest serving heads in the authority, with 27 years of service. A fund has been set up to mark the occasion. Anyone wishing to donate to this can send cheques payable to Loveston School Fund, by July 19.
Three other staff members will be leaving the school at the end of the term; Mrs. Beynon, the school cook has been at the school almost as long as Mrs. Cole. Mrs. Slade and Mrs. Morgan leave as well. Donations for any of these staff members will also be gratefuly received.
If you would like to attend the celebration, please contact the school on 01834 891661 so that your name can be added to the list of friends. A presentation plate will also be available. Please contact the school if you wish to purchase one - price approximately £10.
