A Happy Christmas was guaranteed for Alan Bound as he was the seasonal winner of £2000 from the Pembrokeshire Lottery with lucky number 136.
Now retired from the garage trade, Alan lives in Saundersfoot with wife, Christine, where they look after granddaughter Chloe frequently. The couple have two grown up daughters living locally.
The year also ended prosperously for Enid George, of Llangwm. Enid was the last winner of the year, thanks to number 771 on December 27.
Enid is married to Dennis, an electrician at Texaco, and they have one daughter Dawn, who works in the Magistrates Court, Haverfordwest. The win means that Enid and Dennis can take a special holiday in Canada this year.
2002 was off to good start though for Diane Burton, of Scleddau, Fishguard. For the second time, Diane won £2000, although with a different number, 4387. It really is a case of all the 2s, Diane won on January 2, 2002, for the second time and her second grandchild is due this year.
Married to Marten, who works at Jewson in Fishguard, Diane has three children, Christian, Melanie and Charlene as well as grandson Cameron aged three, all living locally.
The year is set to be special as Diane and Marten celebrate their silver wedding in April so the winnings have been earmarked for a special holiday then.
Finding time between rehearsals to receive his winning cheque was Lottery winner for January 9, was John Seabright, of Trefin. John is playing Widow Twankey in the Mathry Players Pantomime, Aladdin, to be held at the village hall from February 7 to 9. Having retired to Pembrokeshire with his wife, Hilda, six years ago from Hereford and Worcester, John joined the Lottery scheme in 1997 with (winning) number 4385.
He has fully immersed himself in local life, for as well as being active with the Mathry players, he is Secretary of the Letterston British Legion and is also on the Letterston Memorial Hall Committee – who coincidentally had another winner only six weeks previously when Gareth Evans won! John and Hilda plan to use their winnings on a holiday.
Back to the South of the County on January 16, when Jean Jones-Davies, of Kilgetty won with number 2217. Jean, a widow, is a keen member of Templeton W.I and Templeton Ladies Choir. She has two grown up children, Delyth – who is married with two children and also living in Kilgetty – and Keri, now working in Edinburgh as a Psychologist.
The win was a total surprise for Jean and as such she was undecided how to spend her winnings, although her spaniel Lucy may well get a treat for being so well behaved when Jean was presented with her cheque!
