The football team of Coastlands CP School can hold their heads high in their spanking new football kit, thanks to a donation from Valero. Coastlands School is on one base serving six communities in the Dale, Marloes, St. Brides, St. Ishmaels, Herbrandston and Waterston areas.

Paul Harries arrived as head teacher in September 2012, with the school having 65 children in years 3 to 6, aged seven to 11.

"We are really trying to push sport in the school and we thought it would be a great idea to increase pride in the school if we had new kits that could be used," he said.

There are two sets of blue footballs kits with Valero and a Coastlands logo, with matching shorts and socks. The school plays seven-a-side football and now has enough kit for two teams and all the substitutes.

"The children love the kit and it will get its first outing at a match at the start of May, added Mr. Harries. "We regularly go to other schools on our Wednesday sports afternoons and so the kit will get plenty of use before the end of the football season."

Valero public affairs assistant William James said: "Working well in a team is a valuable thing for children to learn and if they feel more like a team by looking like one in a good strip, then Valero has done something useful."

For a small school, sponsorship is vital.

"We have limited funds and there are certain things that we have to spend our money on, so kit is a bit of a luxury," said Mr. Harries. "But the fact that we have had a donation from Valero and that the kit looks magnificent is a huge boost to the school. If you wear kit that fits you and feels comfortable, it makes such a difference.
