Narberth firefighter Matthew Johns recently received a long service medal at the prestigious Brangwyn Hall in Swansea.

The medal is given for 20 years service to the community.

Matthew joined the fire service in September 1994 and has been a committed member of the crew who is highly regarded by his colleagues.

He followed in the footsteps of his late grandfather, Elwyn John, of Tabernacle Row, who served for 30 years as a member of the crew in Narberth.

Clr. Wynne Evans, chairman of the fire authority, addressed the 200-plus audience, thanking firefighters and support staff for their inspirational and outstanding work over the year and said he was looking forward to more co-responder medical support for local communities.

The event was hosted by BBC news presenter Sian Lloyd.
