Pembrokeshire County Council's tourism team has won a prestigious Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN) Advertising Award. The website http://www.visitpembrokeshire.com">www.visitpembrokeshire.com was awarded highly commended in The People Tattersall Website Competition at this year's British Resorts Association Conference. The website beat off strong competition from dozens of rival destinations throughout the UK, including all other Welsh destinations. The county has an excellent record of achievement in the Mirror Group awards, with four in the last 12 years - winner of Best Holiday Brochure Cover in 1993, highly commended in 1997, runner-up in 2003 and now this award for 2005. Clr. Rob Lewis, cabinet member for sports leisure tourism and cultural services, said, "The http://www.visitpembrokeshire.com">www.visitpembrokeshire.com website has gone from strength to strength with increasing numbers of visitors logging on. "The site provides visitors with comprehensive tourist information all on one site, including accommodation, attractions, activities, special offers and what's on. It's also a valuable resource for Pembrokeshire residents." Alan Turner, tourism marketing and development manager for Pembrokeshire County Council said over the last four to five years the team had been putting more and more effort into developing the web site. "We're very pleased to see our hard work being recognised. The internet has now completely replaced some more traditional promotional activities and we're determined to exploit it fully." The website has been designed by Haverfordwest based Buzinet Solutions, who have helped shape the site over the past few years into its award- winning format.
