Local youngsters from across Pembrokeshire had the exclusive chance to experience life as a dancer and learn dance move slast week from the professional dancers of National Dance Company Wales.

Over 60 children aged between six and 16 from three different groups, Us Girls, Arts Care and West Wales Dance Academy had the chance to dance with the award winning National Dance Company Wales before their performance at the Torch Theatre, Milford Haven, on Wednesday night.

National Dance Company Wales returned to Pembrokeshire for its annual visit to the Torch Theatre and made three special visits to sports centres, church halls and galleries, with its dancers to deliver workshops with mixed ability groups, some of whom have never experienced a dance class before.

National Dance Company Wales’ artistic director, Caroline Finn, said: “We all dance: for pleasure, for fun, on our own, in groups or maybe only when no one else is watching. At National Dance Company Wales we truly believe that dance is for everyone. We believe that dance can empower people and encourage anyone to express themselves with confidence. Movement and dance can provide opportunities for people of all abilities and experience levels to try something new, have fun while moving and learn new skills.”

Following the workshop, the young people had the opportunity to see National Dance Company Wales perform its latest tour on stage, Folk, which features the new work by its artistic director, Caroline Finn at the Torch Theatre, Milford Haven, as part of the venue’s Year of Dance celebration.
