SwimNarberth, Pembrokeshire’s only community-owned swimming pool has just received a donation of £1,710 thanks to the efforts of Helena Warne, Lloyds Banking Group’s associate director of commercial finance, and a team of 49 people from the local community.

The team ran the Ironman Wales 2018 Feedstation, with 26 volunteers taking shifts to ensure that drinks and nutrition was available to more than 2,000 competitors taking part. Many of the community were on hand helping for the entire event, between 7 am and 5 pm. Alongside the Feedstation, the volunteer team deployed 23 event marshals around different areas in Narberth to ensure that road closures were adhered to and that the safety of the competitors was not compromised whilst the event was taking place.

In reward of their volunteering efforts, Ironman Wales donated £1,210 to SwimNarberth. In addition, as a Lloyds Banking Group colleague, Helena Warne was able to secure an additional £500 from Lloyds Bank Foundation’s Matched Giving Scheme. The Foundation, which is an independent charitable foundation funded by the profits of Lloyds Banking Group, funds small and local charities; it is also able to award donations to support Lloyds Banking Group colleagues’ charitable efforts in fundraising and volunteering. The £500 Matched Giving contribution brought the total to a fantastic donation of £1,710 towards SwimNarberth.

Helena Warne, associate director of commercial finance at Lloyds Banking Group, said: “We’re really pleased to have been able to raise £1,710 for SwimNarberth - a local pool that is hugely important to the community and benefits people of all ages, from all walks of life. The team of 49 volunteers showed that working together can really make a difference - and we had a great day too.

“Our huge thanks go to Ironman Wales for the donation, and to Lloyds Banking Group and Lloyds Bank Foundation for the extra support through their Matched Giving scheme.”

The Narberth based volunteer group will be running the Ironman Feedstation and marshalling around Narberth this year again at the event on Sunday, September 15.
