The Vintage Motorcycle Club Ltd was formed in 1946 by the Late C. E. ‘Titch’ Allen OBE, and to celebrate the 70th anniversary, the club is holding a baton relay rally which started its journey in April from the venue of the AGM, which was at the British Motor Museum, near Banbury.

The first section to take charge of the baton on its journey around the UK was the Warwickshire section, being one of the 80-plus sections of the club. All sections are invited to take part during the baton’s journey, as are the members who make up the 15,000-plus membership, many of whom will ride with it to key locations whilst it is in their area for a photo to be taken and also if possible sometimes to meet a civil dignitary; this then can be added to the VMCC website updating the progress as it continues onward.

The West South Wales Section takes its turn at receiving the baton at a handover from the Gwent section on Sunday evening at the Glanusk services, Sennybridge, when section member Chris Thomas, along with other members, will take the baton on a trip through parts of Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire during Monday and Tuesday.

Departing from Chris Thomas’s home on Monday morning at 9 am, they will head to Ceredigion to the newly-renovated Cardigan Castle for the first stop, then calling in at Stena Fishguard, before heading off to St. Davids Cathedral.

Some of the stops for Tuesday with Jim Codd and section members at 9.30 am will include Warren Street in Tenby, outside the Tenby Observer offices, opposite the site of the old Ace garage, which sold many a motorcycle a few decades ago, then on to Saundersfoot Harbour Commissioners, the venue of the VMCC Saundersfoot run.

Then it will be along the coast to the world-famous Pendine sands where many motorcycles raced in bygone days and still do today. Next stop will be the historic town of Laugharne, renowned for the castle and Dylan Thomas. The Carmarthen location is yet to be confirmed, but the rest of the journey will be through Pembrey and along the coast via Llanelli.

Then once again, the 70th anniversary baton will be handed over to the members of Swansea section on Tuesday evening at Parc y Scarlets.

Any VMCC members in the area or along the route, or anyone with an interest, is invited to go along and see what’s happening. Please call Jim Codd on (01834) 813173 for times and further information.
