Pembrokeshire was well represented in the Dyfed team which, for the third consecutive year, was first overall in the Welsh Schools Short Course Swimming Championships recently. Dyfed faced stiff opposition from five other counties - Mid Glamorgan, North East Wales, Cardiff and the Vale, Powys and South East Wales - at Brecon Leisure Centre. Besides winning first place outright, Dyfed also won the overall boys trophy for the first time in a number of years. The girls just missed out on a trophy, but finished runners-up. Eleven Pembrokeshire swimmers were in action at Brecon. They were: Tesni Galvin and Elena Ciccotti (Preseli, Crymych); Holly Watkin-Rees (Milford Haven); Jack Lear, Matt Davie, Daniel Brown, Carl Amos, Gemma Amos, Andrew James, Sophie Arthur (all Greenhill, Tenby) and Coral Lewis (Pembroke). To add to their success, Dyfed was first in the relays for the fourth year running. In the individual events, Dyfed notched up 11 first places, six second places, two third places and four fourth places. Two of the first places went to Greenhill boys Andrew James (100 metres breaststroke) and Daniel Brown (100 metres backstroke). Stop press: Congratulations to Andrew James (Greenhill School) who has been selected for the Welsh team to compete in the Wales, Ireland, Scotland and England (WISE) International in Crawley in March.
