After the previous weekend's close loss away at Goodwick, the last place Narberth would have wanted to go to get their season back on track was to the Observatory in Hakin, home of the Vikings and a team many believe to be the county's best. It's also the last place you want to go with a weakened side.

The night before the game four players withdrew from Narberth's ranks and on the morning of the match another had to pull out. Throw in the fact that inspirational 'keeper Huw Davies is potentially out for the season after suffering ankle ligament damage against Goodwick and it's fair to say that confidence amongst the Bluebirds wasn't exactly soaring.

That said, for the first 20 minutes, Peter Fearne's team gave a good account of themselves; they held the home side at 0-0 but once the first went in, the writing was on the wall.

Four goals in each half sealed the deal for the home team and, despite the efforts of Ashley Williams in mid-field for the visitors, the Vikings strolled to a win. Narberth's Steve Jones couldn't help but admire the work ethic of this year's potential champions.

"They are so good and so hungry and their energy levels are fantastic. The scoreline says it all really. It's a disappointing result, but the best team certainly won."

Tenby travelled to Haverfordwest County, but could only muster a point against their opponents following a 1-1 draw.

The home side, just one place above Tenby in the league, proved to be tricky opponents, while the boggy conditions of the Bridge Meadow tamed Tenby's attacking flair and they only had a Billy Vaughan goal to show for their efforts.

Brian Hall may be heading into the realms of veteran status, yet he belied his 37 years to score twice in Carew's 3-0 win over Goodwick United seconds. Hall, playing with his customary enthusiasm and vigour, helped galvanise his teammates following a lacklustre first half that produced no goals.

Matters improved in the second half with the wind at their backs and Hall's brace, together with a Haydn Shapcott strike that broke the deadlock, were enough to secure the points.

Manager Barry Evans said it was a very good win.

"We weren't so good in the first half, but pulled it together in the second and scored some good goals. Hopefully we'll go on a bit of a roll now."

Kilgetty were involved in a seven-goal thriller at home to Lamphey, but they were the team to lose this enthralling clash as they finally went down 4-3 in division two.

Adam Johns scored a fine hat-trick for the home side, but his efforts were eclipsed by the visitors who managed that all-important goal to seal the win.

Saundersfoot Sports secured the biggest win of the day as they hammered Hakin seconds 12-3.

Dan Power and Nick Cope were the stars of the show as they finished with three apiece, while Lewis Hurlow, Russell Evans, Dan Cope, Dan Bates, Mo Safin and Jeff Marsh also managed a goal apiece.

In division three, St. Clears maintained their unbeaten run to remain top of the tree, but they were made to fight hard away at Haverfordwest Cricket Club.

Playing against the wind and slope in the first half, the Saints played the better football and were deserved 2-0 leaders at half-time.

Sean Seymour-Davies's mazy run resulted in a penalty, which Steve Thomas converted, before the former scored a wonder goal from halfway after running rings around the home team's defence to put them two goals up.

The Saints struggled with the wind at their backs and didn't create as much in the second half, thus allowing the home side in. They reduced the deficit late on and peppered the visitors' defence thereafter, but Craig Weston's team managed to hold on.

"The boys had to roll up their sleeves to get the win. The result was the most important thing. We played well in the first half, but not so well in the second, but it keeps our unbeaten run going," said the division leaders' relieved manager.

The Saints are in West Wales Cup action tomorrow (Saturday) as they entertain Johnstown and the club are holding an ex-players day. All former players are invited to attend, with the event starting at 12 noon in the Corvus.

Lawrenny travelled to Hubberston and lost 2-1, with Joe Kidney grabbing the visitors' goal, while Manorbier United have now slipped to 10th in the league after they lost 3-1 away at Johnston seconds.

Tenby seconds clearly enjoyed home advantage over Pembroke Boro as they won 6-1. Jerome Mansbrigde scored three for the Seasiders, while Richard Tebbutt, Hugo Wellham and Perry Broadhurst also got in on the act.

Narberth seconds were involved in a titanic battle at home to Pendine on a pitch that eventually resembled a quagmire.

The Bluebirds' second string ended up 7-4 winners, with Mike Ryder finishing with four goals and Callum O'Connell three. Pendine's goals were scored by Ricky Hunt, Adam Moore and David Lewis, who finished with a brace.

Ryder has had difficulty in finding the back of the net of late and as a result has gone about calling himself Torres, after the beleaguered Chelsea striker who has suffered the same fate. Unlike Stamford Bridge's finest, whose radar has still yet to be fixed, once the first one went in for the Bluebirds ace, there was no stopping him and another three followed.

Narberth's Adrian Howells said it was a welcome win.

"After two defeats, the boys responded well. We had a couple out, but those that came in did a wonderful job. The pitch may have been heavy, but the boys did a good job of playing football. Credit to Pendine, too, as they never gave up and when it went to 6-4 they had us worried, but Ryder was having a field day and he ensured we finished the game off it style."

Saundersfoot Sports' seconds ensured it wasn't just their first team that was involved in a goal-scoring frenzy as they beat Camrose 4-0 away. Tom Davies found the back of the net three times, while the other goal was gifted to them by the home side following a defensive mix-up.

Given that Ashley Smith scored yet again for St. Florence, the questions has to be asked, is he the league's most consistent goal scorer? Hardly a week goes by without him making a fool of goalkeepers and his score helped his side to a 2-1 win over Milford United seconds. Jamie Roberts grabbed the other goal for the home side.

Lawrenny seconds drew 2-2 with Fishguard Sports, while St. Clears' second team were another team to be involved in a thriller as they drew 5-5 with West Dragons. They were 3-1 down at half-time, but managed to pull back to be 5-3 up in the second hal,f before the Dragons rallied to score two late goals to secure a share of the points.

Kilgetty seconds were in Division Five Cup action and lost out at home to Hook as they eventually went down 4-3, despite Ben Jones scoring twice and Matthew Hancock once. The game between Letterston seconds and Manorbier United seconds was postponed.
