Carew's conversion rate in front of goal is costing them dear, according to manager Barry Evans after they bombed out of the Tony Nakonecznyj Insurance Brokers WWFA Intermediate Cup following a 3-0 home loss against Loughor.
The visitors, who are currently second in the Carmarthenshire League, were too strong for Evans's men, yet the home side had enough opportunities to get back into the game, especially as the score was tied 0-0 at half-time.
Carew, currently lying in a comfortable mid-table position in the second division, were minus a couple of influential players for this game, yet Evans didn't feel that was a factor in this loss, focusing instead on the lack of goals that is blighting his team.
"Loughor are a good side and they showed that in the second half when they upped their performance; we created enough chances but we're just not scoring the goals.
"After they scored, they were certainly on top, but before that we matched them; it's very disappointing."
Carew face more cup action this Saturday when they take on Merlins Bridge. "That will be a good test for us," added the Carew boss.
St. Clears' unbeaten start to the season continued over the weekend as they progressed into the third round after beating Landore.
The Saints demolished the Swansea-based side 5-2, with manager Craig Weston praising the character and discipline shown by his side after the visitors took some of their frustrations out of the young home team.
After suffering relegation from division two of the Pembrokeshire League last season, it appears the drop into division three has paid dividends for Weston's young guns. Not only are they unbeaten, they are unbeaten with a team made up of home grown talent, as all 14 of the squad chosen to face Landore have come up through the ranks at the club.
The home side were 3-0 up after 10 minutes of the first half as Dorian Davies nipped one in after three minutes, before Owain Evans and Sean Seymour Davies added the others.
Landore responded with one of their own before the break, yet a second goal by Evans and one by Nathan Evans sealed the visitors' fate, before they scored a consolation as time drew closer.
"After the first 10 minutes, they got a lot more physical, but we maintained our discipline throughout," said a beaming Craig Weston. "It was a cracking win and the boys are growing up with every game."
Tenby entertained top Neath side Park Travellers at the Clicketts, even though the homesters were officially the visiting team. Tenby were initially drawn to play away from home, but the Travellers lived up to their name by requesting the game be played in Tenby so they could enjoy a night out; they probably wish they hadn't.
The visitors (or is that home side?) lost 8-0 to Mike Lewis's men, meaning the Seasiders have now scored 18 goals in their last three games as well as keeping two clean sheets. Lewis said the result left their opponents shellshocked.
"They weren't expecting it. We played some wonderful football and I've got no reason at all to complain at the moment. We're on fire going forward and scored some great goals, with Declan Carroll's second half efforts nothing short of brilliant."
Lewis was referring to Carroll's second in which he beat four or five players in the box before slamming the ball home.
His brace, coupled with Billy Vaughan's hat-trick, together with goals from Dean Rossiter, Alex Harley and Daryl Mansbridge, were enough to send the visiting team packing.
Not such a good result for Saundersfoot Sports, however, as they bowed out of this year's competition after going down 2-1 at home to Johnstown. The Carmarthenshire side were too strong for the home team, with Geoff Marsh getting the Sports' solitary goal.
In league action, Narberth suffered their second consecutive defeat as an in-form Neyland beat them 1-0.
After last week's 4-0 loss against Hakin, the Bluebirds would have been hoping to bounce back against the Nomads, yet Peter Fearne's side remain in fourth place after this set-back.
The visitors paid the price for a lack of spark in a goalless first half and only sprung into life when Neyland went ahead 10 minutes into the second.
Richard Henton, coming back from injury, came on as sub in the second and his presence appeared to inject a spark into the Bluebirds, but despite a flurry of efforts late on, no equaliser was forthcoming. Steve Jones said their lack of energy was unexplained.
"The only thing we can do is put it down to being a bad day at the office. For some reason there was no life there at all. We applied some pressure at the end, but it all came a bit late and, despite the efforts of Ashley Williams and Kyle Quartermaine, we just couldn't get back in."
Kilgetty went down to their sixth loss of the season after a 4-1 away defeat at Angle.
The visitors were never in the game against notoriously difficult opponents and suffered as a consequence, with Josh Bevan's goal the only highlight for Allen Hurst's men.
Lawrenny picked up their sixth win of the season as they defeated Haverfordwest Cricket Club 3-1 at home.
Dean Morris, Owen James and Joe Kidney all scored for the home team.
Narberth Seconds recovered from a shaky first half to overcome a spirited Manorbier United 3-1.
The Bluebirds' second string were under the hammer during the opening 45 minutes as Manorbier went into the break 1-0 up thanks to a goal from Dean Hamilton.
Whatever Adrian Howells said during the break obviously did the trick as his team drew level thanks to a Mike Jolly header, with the other goals coming from Ryan Williams and a tremendous 25-yard effort by Josh Layzell that sealed the game.
Howells said it was a spectacular goal.
"It was incredible. He took the ball just inside the Manorbier half, beat a couple of players and then unleashed this thunderous shot. It was a fitting way to win the game as we pulled our socks up in the second half and beat a side that's often hard to beat."
Pendine entertained Pembroke Boro and gained their fifth point of the season following a 4-4 draw.
Ricky Hunt scored twice for the Gulls as Adam Moore and Adam Newell grabbed the others in an improved performance by the home side.
Tenby Seconds lost at home to Merlins Bridge as the Wizards ran out 2-1 winners. Sam Christopher scored the Seasiders' only goal of the match as they slumped to their fifth defeat of the season.
In division four, Carl Wainwright rolled back the years to score one of Carew Seconds' two goals against Camrose. Ben James grabbed the other as the visitors picked up their third draw of the campaign.
St Florence had a similar result against Fishguard as they drew 0-0.
St. Clears Seconds made it a weekend to remember for the club as they defeated Hundleton 2-0
The Saints made the long trek over to west Pembrokeshire more in hope than expectation as Hundleton were the current leaders of the division, but two goals by Simon Bancroft ensured the Saints went marching home.
Meanwhile, Kilgetty Seconds had the biggest win of the day after defeating Lamphey Seconds 10-4.
Mike Beynon was the chief destroyer with four goals as Dean Morgan scored three and Duanne Rossiter the other in a display of scintillating soccer.
