Onward then in to March and with the final furlong in sight, Kilgetty made a last minute dash for the winning post as they finally broke their duck by recording their first win of the season.
It's unlikely the 3-1 home victory over Herbrandston will help their plight as they still prop up the division one table, but suffice it is to say, the celebrations of this rare win went long in to the night.
Strengthened by the return of a couple of students and stalwart defender Johnny Lewis, the Kingsmoor outfit were much the better side on Saturday and such was their dominance it was a surprise the teams were tied 0-0 at the break.
The visitors went ahead against the run of play early in the second, but two goals by David Lewis, who scored the first and third, which was a 25-yarder, and one by Anthony Lewis saw the side home.
Their task was helped by the fact the opposing 'keeper was dismissed for throwing the ball into the face of a Kilgetty player from point blank range, but this one man advantage shouldn't detract from what was a commanding win.
"The boys celebrated like they had won the league," beamed ecstatic boss Norman James. "They played really well and fully deserved to win."
James is experienced enough to know the drop to division two awaits them, yet savoured the victory as much as his team.
"I didn't want to be the first manager to go down having not won a game and now we have broken that it will be nice if we could get a few more results before the season ends."
They still remain fourth from bottom and are in need of points to consolidate their division one standing.
The Bluebirds played five men in midfield to nullify Tenby's attacking threat in the first half and this policy appeared to work as the scores were level until five minutes before the break.
Then, out of the blue, five minutes before half-time Tenby went ahead through Jordan Richards, before a Kyle Quartermaine own goal gifted them a second.
It was an unfortunate end to the half in which Narberth competed well, although the visitors soon began to dominate in the second.
Home team manager Steve Jones had no complaints.
"They always looked like winning to be honest, especially after they scored two late goals in the first half.
"They hit the bar twice in the second half and showed what a good side they are and I've no complaints. We played well for the first 40 minutes, but they were just too strong for us in the end."
Pendine produced a superb first half performance against high-flying Carew in division two and should have gone in to the break a couple of goals up, yet failed to take their chances against the visitors who went on to win 1-0.
The goal came with about 20 minutes to go as Brian Hall slotted one home to add another to his tally this season.
Robbie Waters had a gilt edged chance to equalise in the second, but his rasping shot hit the bar, while two chances in the first half should have been taken, the second of which was harder to miss than score, said manager Frank Roberts.
"It's one of those chances that you see on YouTube. Honestly, it was literally an empty net as the 'keeper wasn't there, but in all seriousness, we should have gone in to the break two or three goals up as we were very much on top but just didn't take our chances. It's the same every week."
Carew boss Barry Evans knows that promotion is most probably beyond them now unless results go their way, but is targeting a top three finish.
"We haven't lost yet this year and we haven't conceded a goal away from home this year either. We've developed a winning mentality and hopefully we'll keep it going. I'll be delighted if we finish third."
Bottom-of-the-table St. Clears were another team to dominate the first half of their match, but were unable to capitalise on it as they too lost at home following a 2-1 defeat against Saundersfoot Sports.
In an ill-tempered second half, both teams had a player sent-off, with Saints manager Charlie Smith admitting he should have known better after being sent for an early shower alongside the Sports' Carl Wainwright.
"We had enough possession to go in (to the break) ahead and it's disappointing to lose and even more so to lose our discipline the way we did.
"It was a niggly second half and I'm the biggest culprit as I should have known better really."
The home side took the lead after two minutes when Smith reacted to Wesley Reynolds' ricocheted shot. Five minutes later and the teams were level when Geoff Marsh grabbed the first of his two, which was how it stayed until half-time.
The visitors scored 10 minutes into the second half, before the players were dismissed, with visiting manager Andrew Spencer adding they should have won by more.
"It was quite even for the first 10 or 20 minutes, but after we scored we got into it a bit more and dominated. We should have scored more than we did really."
Former first team boss Nigel Thomas was temporarily in charge of Narberth seconds for their away clash at Haverfordwest Cricket Club and for a while it looked as though his experience had done the trick as the Bluebirds led 2-1 at half-time.
Yet four goals in the final 10 minutes meant the points stayed at the Racecourse.
Ben Quartermaine and Ryan Williams scored the Bluebirds' goals, but with a bare squad to choose from due to payer unavailability, the visitors ran out of steam and the home side took advantage of their superior fitness.
"We had a depleted squad and for a while the boys did ok," said Thomas. "But we certainly deserved something for our efforts; the result doesn't do us justice really."
Tenby seconds had an outstanding 3-1 win at Herbrandston, with Alun Morgan netting twice and Greg Palin adding the other.
Two goals by Ricky Thomas resulted in Manorbier United securing a 2-1 win at Hubberston, while Lawrenny won 2-0 at home against Pembroke Boro thanks to goals by Dean Morris and James Buckle.
Elsewhere, a Rob Beynon goal gave Kilgetty seconds a 1-0 away win at Hundleton, while St Florence were involved in a ding-dong battle at Clarbeston Road. The Saints eventually lost 5-3, with Ashley Smith finishing with a brace and Jamie Roberts adding the other.
Carew seconds had the bragging rights at Saundersfoot Sports as they won 4-3. Two goals by Jonny Lammin and one apiece by Tom Richards and Dan Powers were enough to see the visitors home against scores by Jack Sayers, Richard Cope and Tom Davies.
In division five, Lawrenny seconds won 3-2 at Pembroke Boro, with the goals being shared between Mike Howe, Sam Mills and Ian Jenkins. Meanwhile, St Clears' seconds lost 1-0 away at Neyland.
