It was top versus bottom in Division One of the Pembrokeshire League on Saturday and true to form, bottom side Kilgetty travelled away and lost out to Hakin.
Having lost a few players in the close season and with more out injured, the start to this campaign has been a difficult one for Norman James and his crew and a trip to the Obs would have been the last place they wanted to go and play a game.
Surprisingly, though, the first 40 minutes or so wasn't as bad as the visitors would have feared as they prevented the home side from scoring during this period. Once the first went in though, the floodgates finally opened.
The Kingsmoor outfit conceded six in total against the league leaders, with James saying the championship contenders look in fine form.
"I was proud of the way we played early on. It was hard; there's no doubt about that, but we dug in and prevented them from scoring, which was good.
"In the end they were just too strong for us and they played some lovely football too."
Narberth didn't fare much better, despite having home advantage against Haverfordwest County, as they lost 5-0.
Like Kilgetty, The Bluebirds are missing some key players at present due to injury, yet acting manager Steve Jones had no complaints about the result and made no excuses for the defeat.
"Sometimes you just have to take your hat off to the opposition and I've got no complaints about the result, they looked a superb side.
"They were sharper, quicker to the ball and passed it around well and they were just too good for us on the day. They looked an excellent team."
The homesters were 2-0 down at the break and, although Richie Adams and Jordan Williams had chances in the second, they failed to convert them against the dominant opponents, who added another three in the second half to run out deserved winners.
Tenby's goalkeeping crisis led to midfield maestro Dean Rossiter taking his place between the sticks for their home clash against Herbrandston. Fortunately, the four defenders in front of him were in such fine form that he was barely called into action.
He did concede one goal, however, although a fine hat-trick by Mike Boswell, together with scores from Rob Whitfield, Declan Carroll, Tom Meiring and Jordan Richards resulted in a 7-1 win for the Seasiders.
"We could have doubled that score," said manager Mike Lewis. "The back four helped us move forward and Alex Harley and Carroll were superb and are forming a good partnership. It was a very pleasing win."
In Division Two, a goal apiece by Wesley Reynolds and Robbie Waters was enough to guarantee Pendine a share of the spoils against Prendergast Villa as the teams drew 2-2.
Carew travelled to Angle and came away with a 5-0 win thanks to four goals from Adam Hughes and a goalmouth scramble from Ian Sefton.
With a 2-0 lead heading into the break, the visitors had the initiative, yet they needed more scores to confirm the points and Hughes didn't disappoint. Capitalising on Carew's dominance, he struck three times after the interval to secure victory.
"We've got a much improved attitude this year and it's showing on the field," said Paul Bullock. "Training has been brilliant and as a result we're playing with more confidence and a more positive attitude."
Saundersfoot Sports drew 2-2 at home to Milford Athletic, with manager Andrew Spencer saying it was a game they should have won.
"We played well. Two mistakes cost us, but we should have won the game. We'll start winning soon, I'm sure. Athletic are a top side, so to get a result against them was good."
Both goals were scored by former Kilgetty players Richard Cope and Geoff Marsh in the second half after they trailed 1-0 at half-time.
St. Clears, meanwhile, suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to Milford Athletic, with manager Charlie Smith describing the result as 'disappointing.'
The home team produced a good first half display, with Lloyd Evans and Kyle Leland both hitting the bar, prior to the visitors taking a 1-0 lead into the break.
The Saints conceded an own goal to go 2-0 down following a scramble in the box and this second score proved the catalyst for the defeat.
"Our heads went down after they scored the second," said Smith. "We didn't look like coming back after that. The first half was good, though, and we more than matched them, even though they scored a goal late on in the half.
"It was a much improved display in the first half, though, and hopefully that's something we can build on."
In Division Three, an 8-0 defeat away at West Dragons meant that Narberth seconds went down to one of their heaviest defeats in recent years and together with the first team, the club's senior sides conceded 13 goals between them.
Tenby seconds drew 3-3 away at Broad Haven, meaning their unbeaten record is intact as Mo Sofan scored all the goals, while two goals by Owen James and one by Tom Lewis secured a 3-1 home win for Lawrenny against Solva seconds.
Manorbier United, meanwhile, went down to a 6-1 home defeat against Merlins Bridge seconds as Mike Brown scored the home team's solitary goal.
Saundersfoot Sports' second team won the derby match against their counterparts from Carew, winning 2-1 away from home. James Hinchcliffe scored Carew's only goal, while Grant Hardy and Gareth Hunt secured the points for the visitors.
St. Florence won a thrilling match 5-3 away from home as Ashley Smith scored twice alongside goals from Jamie Roberts, Scott Smith and John Mackie.
Kilgetty seconds entertained their St. Ishmaels counterparts and held the second placed team to a 1-1 draw. Matt Hancock scored the all-important goal for the home side.
Finally, St. Clears' second team went down to a 7-3 defeat away at new boys Cosheston Cougars, with Simon Bancroft scoring all three for the visitors, while at Neyland, Lawrenny seconds went down 3-2, with Mike Howe and Brad Jenkins scoring for the away side.
