Given the warm spring-like sunshine of the past few days, it appears the coldest winter for a decade or so has finally come to an end and Carew for one, will be glad to see the back of it.
This has been their winter of discontent, a season that will most definitely see them in Division Two next year, a period to forget. Still, they have reason to be cheerful, as recent results show, and the latest, a 2-2 draw away from home against Narberth, gave plenty of scope for celebration.
"It was a game where we never gave up trying," said Paul Bullock. "I think we deserved the draw for our fighting sprit at least. They were the dominant team in the first half, but we came back well in the second.
"Maybe they stepped off a little, who knows, but it was still a good performance by us."
Narberth were by far the strongest side in the first half and, although Carew had opportunities, the home side scored first though Tony Evans. This was the only goal of the half and, although it may have been short on goals, it was by no means short of excitement, especially if you were a Narberth supporter.
The second period was an altogether different affair. Neither side really took control of the game, although more goals were forthcoming. Joe Kidney equalised after 70 minutes, before Raff Barnet scored with five minutes to go and, just as the game looked to have been won, up popped Richard Bullock with a last minute equaliser.
Despite seeing a win slip away, Narberth boss Nigel Thomas was philosophical about the result.
"Fair play, Carew stuck to their task. We should have won, there's no doubt about that, we should have won it by half-time, but we failed to put away our chances and in the end that cost us the three points."
One team that managed to take three points from their game was Kilgetty after they travelled to St. Ishmaels and won 4-2. Although he may have watched his side win, manager Andrew Cope wasn't at all that satisfied with the performance.
"It was a win. We didn't play well, neither side did. I think we may have been suffering from the after-effects of Tuesday night (they lost in the semi-final of the Senior Cup against Hakin). Thankfully, it came right in the end, but at one stage, it was as though the energy had been drained from us."
The first half certainly wasn't an advert for local football, with a Grant James goal separating the teams at the interval. Fortunately, the second half was more entertaining as James scored again before Tish came back to equalise.
A Mike Scale goal five minutes from time settled matters for the visitors, before Nick Cope finished it off from the penalty spot after Scale was fouled from behind.
Saundersfoot Sports lost out 1-0 in the semi-final of the Second Division Cup after they were beaten by Prendergast Villa. With nothing to choose between the sides, the Sports eventually went down thanks to a Paul Jenkins goal.
After losing out on a semi-final position in the Senior Cup, the Sports would have had high hopes of going one stage further in this competition, but it wasn't to be and with promotion to Division One a far-off possibility, it looks like it's going to be a season without silverware for the Sports.
Pendine suffered the agony of a last minute defeat at home against Angle. They eventually lost 3-2 with virtually the last kick of the game. Earlier, two goals by Luke Ormond were enough to secure a share of the points for the Seagulls, until that last minute strike made it an afternoon with nothing to show for the home team.
St. Clears produced their worst display of the season away at Hubberston. despite winning the Division Three clash 5-1.
That was the view of Saints 'keeper Jason Owens. "They only had nine men throughout the game," he said. "We only managed one goal in the first half. It was a dreadful performance and quite possibly the worst game I have played in all season."
Owens, a big Manchester United fan, had further cause for misery as the game progressed when news filtered in of their 4-1 defeat to Liverpool.
A Gareth Griffiths goal was all that separated the teams in the first half, with a swift Sam Thomas hat-trick giving the visitors some breathing space in the second.
The home side pulled one back on a counterattack, but a fifth goal by debutant Dean Olivier settled matters late in the game.
Narberth Seconds are in grave danger of being relegated to Division Four after they lost their latest game 4-0 away at Merlins Bridge. With five games to play at home, the Bluebirds believe they must win at least four of them if they are to maintain their position in the third tier of Pembrokeshire football, but on this display, they will need to up their game.
"We've got no excuses," said Steve Jones. "They thoroughly deserved it and we didn't. It's going to be a tight finish for us, but I'm sure we can pull through. We can play better than this, especially at home."
Lawrenny let a two-goal advantage slip away from their grasp away at Broad Haven and they had to settle for a draw against the Seasiders. A defensive lapse allowed the home side to score first, although a Mike Beynon strike, followed by a James Phillips goal, gave the visitors the lead at half-time.
Beynon had a penalty saved early in the second, but Mike Jolly was there to follow up.
The home side responded, however, with two goals in the final 10 minutes of the game to see them through for a share of the spoils.
It was a good afternoon for St. Florence as they travelled to Prendergast Villa and came away with a 5-1 result to their name. Jamie Roberts was the star of the show with a fine hat-trick, while Scott Smith and Luke Askew added the other goals to the team's tally.
In Division Four, Carew Seconds drew 1-1 at home with Milford United, thanks to a wonder goal from Jeremy Griffiths, while Kilgetty Seconds lost 5-3 at home to their counterparts from Camrose, despite a fine hat-trick by Barry Ormond.
Meanwhile, Saundersfoot Sports' Seconds won 4-2 at home against Clarbeston Road, with James Hall, Mike Cornick, Luke Trevis and Tom Spencer sharing the goals.
In Division Five, the game between Haverfordwest Cricket Club and Pendine was postponed, while at Lawrenny, the home team won their clash against Pembroke Boro Seconds 7-1, with Chris Beff scoring three, Dean Morris two, and Sam Davies and Conrad Mandiki one apiece.
