A cup semi-final appearance against Hakin United is the outcome for Kilgetty after they beat Pembroke Boro 4-1 in the quarter-final of the Senior Cup.

Of all the teams you want to meet in a semi-final, Hakin would not be one of them. It's far better to meet them in the final of the competition; at least you can then have the excuse of saying you are out to enjoy the occasion, as final appearances do not come around very often, unless of course, you play for Hakin.

Kilgetty manager Andrew Cope is well aware of the Vikings' threat, yet has a novel way of looking at the draw.

"We'll treat it like our own mini final, then, if we beat them, we can enjoy another."

It's an interesting theory and suggests that Kilgetty have nothing to lose when they play the Vikings and if they go out to play them without fear, then who knows, they may just do it.

Kilgetty certainly played without fear against the Boro and led 2-0 at the break through goals by Adam Johns and Nick Cope.

Cope added a second just after the break, only for the Boro to come back hard, which did create the odd panic in Kilgetty's ranks, yet at the same time, left gaps in defence for Cope's team to exploit.

The fact they didn't score more goals was a disappointment, although Geoff Marsh put paid to any hopes the Boro may have had of a comeback with Kilgetty's fourth late on in the game.

If there was joy for Kilgetty, then there was agony for Saundersfoot as they narrowly missed out on progressing in the cup after losing 1-0 to Monkton Swifts. The fact that the Swifts goal came from the penalty spot shows how few chances the Sports gave the home side and, although they created chances of their own, they just couldn't put them away.

Despite struggling for players on the morning of the match, Narberth put up a brave fight against Hakin United in their cup clash, before narrowly losing out 5-2. With eight players missing from both the first and second team squads, Narberth were scratching around all morning to field two teams and the fact they did, is a testament to their resolve.

Unfortunately, this resolve didn't quite stretch to pulling off a shock win as, despite a backs to the wall performance that netted goals for Richie Adams via the penalty spot and one by Chris O'Connell, Hakin were the better side.

Back to league football and Carew's Paul Bullock had nothing but praise for his young team-mates, despite going down 5-2 at home against Goodwick United, claiming the result didn't do his team justice.

"We should definitely have got something from it," he said. "We were very competitive and they didn't create that much, but what they did create they scored from. After that result in Clarbeston Road, we are starting to put some performances together. It was an enjoyable game, despite the result."

Carew took an early lead in the game through Joe Kidney and, although the visitors drew level, it was the home team that went in ahead at the break following an Ian Sefton penalty.

Goodwick drew level 15 minutes into the second half, but a series of near misses cost the home team dear. Richard Bullock had two headers well saved and Sefton went close too, but a deflected goal at the other end, together with two further scores, gave the points to the visitors.

In Division Two, Pendine lost 2-1 away at Fishguard, despite a goal by Steve Jones, while Tenby had a fine 3-0 away win at Johnston.

Seasiders' manager Mike Lewis said it was a great result.

"It's always tough at Johnston. We had three boys out, too, which didn't help, but the boys played superbly. James Howes was outstanding for us and really stood out. They were physical, but we dealt with that well and I'm really pleased with the win."

Dean Rossiter scored the only goal of the first half, with Sam Christopher grabbing both second half scores.

Tenby entertain Saundersfoot this Saturday, which should be a game worth seeing.

Meanwhile, at Manorbier, matters on the pitch seem to be going from bad to worse as they lost 14-0 at home against Milford United.

In the Division Three Cup, Narberth Seconds, despite being without many first choice players, gave a brilliant account of themselves away at Broad Haven, despite losing 4-3.

"We could barely raise a side," said Paul Phillips. "We had to beg some boys to play and in the end we played brilliantly. Obviously it's disappointing to lose, but you can't fault the commitment of those who played."

David Gillard was one player who the Bluebirds begged to play and he repaid their faith in him with a first half score that saw the Bluebirds trail 3-1 at the break.

A Mark O'Sullivan strike early in the second gave Narberth hope, although the home side increased their lead soon after, before Peter Phillips pulled one back, while Jason Jones missed a penalty right at the end that would have drawn the sides level.

At Lawrenny, the home side lost 8-1 in quagmire conditions. They were only 2-1 down at the break thanks to a Tom Lewis score, but the hero became a villain early in the second when he handled the ball on the line and was sent-off as a result.

The one-man advantage paid dividends for Lamphey and they scored six further goals, although Lawrenny manager Neil Jolly believed his side could have got something from the game, had they not been reduced to 10 men.

"I thought the sending off was harsh, he didn't mean to handle the ball and it was a match-turning decision. We could have snatched a draw with 11 men, but in those conditions, with 10 men, it was always going to be hard," he said.

At St. Clears, another show-stealing performance by Eddie Wiggins allowed the home side to beat Merlins Bridge 5-0. Wiggins ended the game with a hat-trick, with the other goals coming from Sam Thomas and Jason Baxter.

At St. Florence, the home side lost 4-0 against Monkton Swifts.

In Division Four, a Daryl Page goal was not enough to prevent Carew Seconds from losing 4-1 away at Clarbeston Road, while the game between Saundersfoot Sports and Kilgetty's second teams was postponed.

In the second leg of their Division Five quarter-final, St. Clears Seconds won 5-0 away at Pembroke Boro, winning 7-1 on aggregate.

Simon Bancroft led the way with a hat-trick, with Paul Edwards and Dai Nicholls grabbing the other scores.

Pendine Seconds won 5-2 at home against Fishguard, the first game played at their own ground since the New Year.

"If it wasn't too wet, it was frozen, and if it wasn't frozen, it was covered in snow," said John Roberts. "Still it was nice to play and even better to win; the boys played well."

Tegid Edwards scored the first two, with Rob Thomas grabbing a third before the break. The visitors pulled two back, but another Rob Thomas strike, followed by a Jonathan Roberts goal at the end, confirmed the points for the Gulls.

Tenby Seconds beat Letterston 2-0, with manager Alun Morgan describing it as 'a good performance, although we should have scored more.'

Morgan grabbed the first goal, with Simon Bolton netting the second.

Meanwhile, Lawrenny Seconds travelled to West Dragons and gave a stellar performance, despite losing 5-2.

"We were missing nine players, so I thought we did ok," said John Beff. "Two were making their debuts, so if you take that into considerationn we played really well, in factn I reckon we could have come away with a draw had we had a little more luck."

The visitors were 3-0 down at the breakn although this was reduced in the second half as John Morse and Sam Davies put the score at 3-2, before the home side pulled clear.

Dean Rossiter starred as Sumo Warriors helped themselves to a 6-2 victory over Ivy Bush Boys.

The win keeps them two points clear of St. Flo Boys, who had a stunning win of their own, crushing Kilgetty Boys 11-1 as Ashley Smith took the eye.

Third-placed Stallion Men are hanging on in there and needed a last minute winner to sneak past Inter Minan 5-4, in a game where Geraint Nicholas proved the difference.

Elsewhere, Nomad Stars shone brightly as they winged their way past Landsker Eagles 6-2, while the Underdogs beat struggling Pendine Partimers 3-2.

Tenby Leisure League

Two massive wins provided the highlights of a rather chilly week of fixtures.

Congratulations are due to top-of-the-table Tenby Titans as they took the title with two games to spare after Will Hughes led them to a 7-1 thumping of Fake Madrid.

Elsewhere, The Norm were anything but, as Richard Hall starred in a 9-1 destruction of lowly The Mighty Ducks, who stay rooted to the foot of the table.
