Division One
Carew 0 Neyland 4
Another sorry defeat for Carew means they are still hovering around the relegation zone wondering just how their season is going to pick up. On this display, it's not going to happen quickly as the visitors were in control from the start, although they could only go into the break one goal to the good after Bryan Mathias had scored. A Jason Phillips volley made it 2-0 in the second before Wayne Parry slotted one home from an acute angle to make it three, with Paul Hannon lobbing Ian Kerrison to complete the rout. A couple of wins will ease the pressure on Carew, but it needs to happen sooner rather than later if they are going to avoid the dreaded drop.
Haverfordwest County 1 Narberth 12
Narberth bounced back to winning ways with as convincing a result as you are ever likely to see against an inexperienced and overwhelmed Haverfordwest County. Matthew Johns' team showed no mercy on the youngsters and could easily have scored more, not that debutant Mike Boswell is complaining; he scored seven of them, the first with his very first touch of the ball in Narberth colours. As debuts go, it was Roy of the Rovers stuff. Morgan Preece got in on the act with four goals of his own, while Raff Barnett added a solitary goal for good measure. Johns was naturally pleased with the result. "It was good to get the win as we have Solva next week and that won't be easy. They were a young side and once we had scored a few you could see their heads drop. It was a good win."
Division Two
Johnston 1 Tenby 1
A lack of composure in front of goal cost Tenby dear at Johnston as the Seasiders had to settle for a draw despite having the better of the game. "I'm disappointed we only got one point instead of three," said manager Neil Finlay. "We hammered them, but just couldn't score. They're a tough side, especially at home, but we played well enough to win and it's disappointing that we didn't." Johnston had one shot all game and scored from it to go into the break a goal up, but Sam Christopher soon put that right with a fine goal in the second half to draw the team's level. It would have been a different story had Sonny Phillips scored from the penalty spot in the first half, but veteran 'keeper Steve James made a fine save to deny him and in the end, that was the difference between two points gained and two points lost.
Pembroke Boro 0 Kilgetty 4
Victory over the Boro secured pole position for Kilgetty after Andrew Cope's team strolled to a marvellous 4-0 victory; although they could only manage one before the break. That came after Grant James scored his eighth goal of the season with another fine header, with Cope describing James as having the ability to 'hang in the air' despite his lack of height. Nicky Cope scored the second early after the interval, with Geoff Marsh scoring his ninth of the season to make it 3-0. The rout was completed as Jack Bevan scored to make it four, with Andrew Cope admitting the result gives them a head start with some tough games to come. "It keeps us on track. We've got some derbies coming up and they are always hard, no matter what your league position is. We're playing well, but we're also keeping a level head and taking each game as it comes."
Pendine 1 Manorbier UNITED 0
Pendine was no place for the feint-hearted as both teams served up a tough, uncompromising game which the home team just about won. Justin Blewitt scored the only game of the after just 10 minutes as he slid past the last man in defence before slotting the ball into the back of the net. Few chances were created from either side after that, although Peter Roberts did hit the bar for the home team in a welcome win for them.
St. Clears 2 Milford Athletic 2
The Saints earned their first point of the season with this draw against Milford Athletic, although it was definitely a game they could have won. "It was quite an even game," admitted Steve Trivet. "Considering the start we've had, it's nice to get a point, although three would have been better, but it gives us something to build on." It was 1-1 at the break, with the visitors taking the lead through an own goal, before Wayne John drew the teams level just before half-time. The Athletic scored soon after the re-start, but super sub Sam Thomas equalised soon after to secure the point, with the home side finishing the stronger of the two sides.
St. Davids 0 Saundersfoot Sports 4
An excellent display by Saundersfoot saw them come away from St. Davids with a fine 4-0 victory to their name. Two goals by Sam Gray and one apiece for Sam Coleman and Rob Colley were enough to secure all three points on offer, which will give the side confidence ahead of their Second Division Cup game against Angle this weekend. The result puts them fourth in the league, just two points behind second placed Clarbeston Road and five behind arch rivals Kilgetty.
Division Three
Lamphey 5 St. Florence 3
Losing a derby is never easy to take, but losing one after scoring three goals of your own is even harder - and that is exactly what happened to St. Florence in this game against Lamphey. This was an even game against two even sides, as was proved in the first half when the sides went into the break tied at 2-2. Anthony Webb scored twice to give Lamphey a two- goal lead, before Scott Smith and Colin Batley scored to draw the teams levels. Webb completed his hat-trick soon after the restart to give Lamphey the lead, but another Smith goal saw the sides level again, before Nick Wemyss and James White scored one each to give Lamphey the win.
Lawrenny 1 Letterston 4
Lawrenny manager Chris Buckle is on the lookout for a striker who can regularly knock in the goals after witnessing his team lose heavily away at Letterston despite playing well. "The score didn't reflect the game at all. We created plenty of chances, we just couldn't score them, and in the end that cost us." A goal by Simon Lawrence was all that separated the teams at the break, before the away side pulled clear early in the second through Geraint Mathias and Lee James. Jon Morse pulled one back for Lawrenny and with the visitors having a player sent off for a second bookable offence, it looked as though a comeback was on the cards, but a brilliant free-kick by Tristan Mansell spoiled it for Lawrenny as Letterston ended up winning four goals to one.
Reserve Cup -round one
Hakin Utd 6 St. Clears 0
St. Clears may have lost heavily in this game against superior opposition, but they can take heart from their performance, especially in the second half as they didn't concede any goals. Hakin were irresistible before the break, scoring six goals, with Shaun Mills grabbing a hat-trick, followed by scores from Jamie Butland, Aaron Owens and David Davies. The Saints pulled themselves together after the break and performed with enough composure to suggest they can push on for the rest of the season, even though their Reserve Cup dreams are over for this year at least.
Hundleton 6 Pendine 2
Pendine performed admirably enough in the first half as the sides went into the break tied at 2-2. Hundleton may have taken and early two-goal lead, but goals from Teged Edwards and Jon Owens soon put the record straight. Unfortunately for the Seagulls, they couldn't maintain this intensity as Hundleton pulled clear in the second half to score four goals without reply.
Manorbier UNITED 0 Pembroke Boro 7
Manorbier's cup dreams were over before they began as they endured a horrible day against Pembroke Boro. Three goals by Jason Scott and one each for Rob George, Danny James, Darren Williams and Jason Beynon were enough to dash United's hopes in a one-sided encounter.
Saundersfoot Sports 4 St. Ishmaels 2
Saundersfoot's second side proved once again that the King George V playing field is no easy place to visit, as they saw off a team playing in a league above them on Saturday with a fine victory in the first round of the Reserve Division Cup. Having won all their previous home games in the league so far this season, this was a fine test to see how far the team has come on since the last campaign and indeed it was Saundersfoot who took the initiative in the opening 15 minutes when Dan Colley burst through from the centre of midfield to pick up a lay-off from striker Tom Spencer and slot the ball home. The home side continued to pressure their opponents, with a couple of strikes from outside the box from Spencer and one from winger Gary Cunningham going close, but not troubling the 'keeper. However, St. Ishmaels got back into the game when the Saundersfoot defence switched off momentarily, failing to deal with an attack from the left side, which resulted in a chance for Kyle Forrest who equalised. Just as the game was heading into half-time with the scores level, Colley went on a powerful run with the ball at his feet into the Tish box and was brought down by a reckless sliding tackle, giving the referee no option but to award the spot kick, which Spencer calmly slotted home. After the break, Saundersfoot went close to going further ahead, with Paul Evans testing the 'keeper from distance and his strike partner Spencer having another effort cleared off the line, while at the other end, Richard Thomas, between the posts, made a couple of outstanding saves to keep his side in front. St. Ishmaels found the leveller, though, when Leigh Harteveld headed home from an in-swinging cross. Sports battled back to regain the lead, with captain Ian Morris picking up the ball in midfield and feeding Colley in the box who turned and drilled it into the net. With the game almost in injury time, St. Ishmaels won a corner and sent their 'keeper forward in a last-ditch attempt to save the match. However, before he even made it to the box, the cross was dealt with by Saundersfoot's defence and substitute Simon Stanford controlled the ball on the halfway line and with a long range left-footed effort that Johnny Wilkinson would have been proud of, put it between the empty posts to give his side a deserved 4-2 win. Saundersfoot's young centre-back partnership of Danny Harries and Scott Helmich had a solid game, while the experienced Steve Ruff and Paul 'Tiny' Thomas in the fullback positions were strong in the tackle and first to every challenge. Thomas, in goal, as always, showed good hands in pulling off some crucial saves and dealing with any dangerous high balls. Winger Laurence 'Loz' Rogers once again proved a real handful for the opposition defence, while on the right side, Cunningham, returning from a long injury lay-off, also made a fine attacking contribution. Colley and Morris were both creative and hard working in midfield, with Spencer and Evans proving a tricky combination to handle up front.
Tenby 3 Carew 3
This derby tie was perhaps the most exciting game of the round, with Carew managing to draw level with just four minutes to go. Even though extra-time was played and no goals were scored, the game didn't go to penalties because the referee blew up, meaning the game will have to be replayed. Carew led 1-0 at the break after Haydn Shapcott scored, but a Billy Connor goal drew the sides level early in the second half. Keri Bradley made it 2-1 to Carew soon after, but a superb 25-yard shot by Toby Smith followed by a fine Alan Townsend meant Tenby had the ascendancy with time ticking away. Just as a win looked likely, up popped Evans for one of the most important goals of his career; forcing the game into extra-time with a replay looming soon. Reserve Division One
Herbrandston 1 Narberth 3
A fine display by Narberth's reserves resulted in an excellent win for Nigel Thomas's men. Two goals in the first half gave the Bluebirds the lead as Adrian Howells and Ashley Williams found the back of the net. Herbie scored with 10 minutes of the game to go, but there was no dream comeback for them as Tony Evans scored soon after to put the game beyond doubt.
Reserve Division Two
Kilgetty 5 Fishguard Sports 4
Kilgetty almost gave the perfect example of how to throw away a three-goal lead on Saturday after they led 4-1 against Fishguard, only to go to sleep and allow the visitors back in. Goals by Dean Rossiter, Rob Beynon and Jamie Morgan helped Kilgetty assemble a 3-1 lead at the break, with Joe Scourfield making it four early in the second. The home side then sat back and coasted for a while to allow Fishguard back in to score three very quick goals and the home side were staring defeat in the face, but thankfully for them Jamie Morgan managed to squeeze one past the visiting 'keeper to secure the nervous win.
Letterston 1 Lawrenny 5
Lawrenny gave a Jekyll and Hyde performance on Saturday as they played poorly in the first half to go into the break a goal behind, but recovered sufficiently to record an excellent away win. Mike Jolly scored after 30 seconds of the second half to draw the teams level and the goal gave the visitors a much-needed tonic as they scored at will thereafter. John Beff grabbed goal number two, with John Jolly netting the third, before the fourth and fifth were scored via an own goal and Sam Davies, respectively.
