Division One
Narberth 2 Carew 1
Carew would have had high hopes of a good start in this season's campaign in Division One following the promise they showed last year, but as yet, nothing has gone to plan. They recruited well in the close season, only to see a number of those new players go back to their previous clubs and they have also lost last season's manager, Mike Lewis, who has decided to leave the club; even so, they would have travelled to Narberth knowing a win was possible. In the first half at least it looked as though this would be the case as they dominated proceedings to lead 1-0 at the break through a Mike Beynon goal, and then it all went wrong. A lack of fitness was to blame as they ran out of steam and allowed the homesters back in, with James Luxon equalising 10 minutes before the end and with the last kick of the match, Harry Allen scored to leave the home supporters ecstatic and Carew's wondering just what has gone wrong.
Division Two
Camrose 1 Tenby 2
Tenby keeper Ashley Murdoch saved a penalty in the first half, during which the defences of both teams held firm. At the start of the second half Adam Hawkins scored a slightly controversial gaol for Camrose with a direct kick form a corner. With 20 minutes left the visitors equalised with a long range kick into the box from Sid Wallace and the ball bounced to evade the clutches of the Camrose keeper. Although the visitors were reduced to 10 players, Tenby managed to come away from Camrose with the points when Mohamed Safin volleyed the ball into the roof of the net from seven yards when he picked up a cross from Liam Robson.
Clarbeston Road 2 Saundersfoot Sports 3
A breakaway down the left set up the opening goal for Clarbie and Richard Bevan scored in the left corner. Sports soon realised that they would have to work hard to win but took the first steps by getting the equaliser after a good combination between Sam Coleman and Grant Hardy ended with a clever finish by Hardy. Saundersfoot took the lead after five minutes of the second half when Danny Caine found the back of the net following a good cross by Sam Coleman and the lead was extended when Grant Hardy scored his second with a goal into the right corner. The visitors conceded a penalty which was converted by Daniel Rees from the spot kick, but the visitors held on to gain a hard fought win and secured the points.
PEMBROKE BORO 2 MANORBIER 3
Manorbier's first game in a higher division following last season's promotion proved to be a tough test. Both teams began equally, but the home side gained the breakthrough with a goal midway through the first half following a defensive error. It took until midway through the second half for the next goal, when a through ball was latched onto by Jamie Robinson, who beat the 'keeper with an instinctive finish. The game appeared to be heading for a draw, before a mix-up in the Manorbier defence allowed the Boro centre forward to head home. With only minutes remaining, Michael Ryder, substitute extraordinaire, added urgency to proceedings and his cross led to Adam Thorne nipping in at the far post to equalise. Surely the game was heading for a draw now! Ryder again ripped up the script and curled a magnificent shot from 25 yards to seal a super start in division two for the Yellows. In defence, Phil McWeeney was outstanding and Josh Hawkes was vibrant in midfield. Match sponsor was Alonzo Llewellyn.
MANORBIER 3 ST. DAVIDS 4
If the first game of the season had been an excellent start by the Yellows, then this game was to prove a disappointing result against the Saints. The first half was all Manorbier, with Adam Thorne continuing his surprising goal form to give the home side the lead following an excellent move. Jamie Robinson soon made it two when he thumped in the second from an acute angle. A superb move then allowed Josh Hakes to make it three just before half-time. The second half saw a different story unfold. The home side eased off the gas and let their lead suddenly turn into a 4-3 deficit, as wave after wave of St. Davids attacks led to them deservedly taking control of a match that wasn't theirs for the taking. Despite being behind, Manorbier should have at least equalised, with three or four clear-cut chances being squandered near the end. For Manorbier, fullbacks James Nicholas and captain Sam Reeve put in fine displays in an otherwise poor team performance. Match ball sponsor was Alonzo Llewellyn.
Kilgetty 2 Fishguard Sports 1
Kilgetty manager Andrew Cope believes his team can do well this season and expects them to improve as their match fitness perks up; believing this is the reason why his team cannot sustain the level of football, they are capable of playing for a full 90 minutes. "We played some great stuff in the first half and passed the ball around well and created plenty of chances; we just ran out of puff in the end." They were 2-0 up at the break, with Grant James opening the scoring with an excellent header, while Nick Cope scored the second after his corner flew directly into the back of the net. Fishguard responded well after the interval and increased the pressure on Kilgetty and pulled one back through Carl Lewis as the minutes ticked away. Fortunately for Cope and his team, they managed to nullify any further threats with some resolute defence.
Pembroke Boro 5 St. Clears 2
This was St. Clears' second defeat of the season and their second by the same scoreline. After an up and down campaign last year, it looks as though this season could be the same, as a lack of composure in defence cost them dear. The only highlight of the match was the form of Eddie Wiggins who has been the Saints' sole goal scorer so far this year, adding two in this game to the brace he scored against Kilgetty in the first game of the season. For Boro, both James Kitts and Stuart James bagged a brace and Matthew Davies also scored.
Pendine 5 Angle 2
Pendine have started the season well, notching up two wins from two, with plenty of goals to boot. Angle were never at the races as the Gulls produced one of their finest first half performances for many a year to go 4-0 up at the break. Craig Hurst got the ball rolling with two excellent goals, before Ricky Hunt and Lee Lewis scored another two before the interval. Angle came back to score two of their own with strikes from Gavin Wickland and Luke Richards as the home team stepped off the pedal slightly, but James Stevenson made sure of victory with a fine goal just before the close of play.
Division Three
Letterston 4 St Florence 0
Letterston showed that they are a good side with plenty of pace and opened the scoring with a goal from Geraint Mathias. The Saints failed to equalise but were in the game until ten minutes from the end, Three late goals by John Williams, Geraint Mathias and Mike Williams for Letterston put the game out of reach for the Saints.
Newport Lions 3 Lawrenny 1
As is so often the case Lawrenny started slowly and found it difficult to find their touch. The Lions took the lead when Matthew Lewis lobbed Lawrenny keeper Steve Cole with a rebound from a free kick which was taken 30 yards out. Lawrenny came close to scoring with a couple of long range efforts by Will Herdman and Mike Jolly but were unable to equalise. After the interval the Lions increased the lead when a header from a corner was parried and Tom Evans slotted the ball home from the edge of the box. Lawrenny made some changes and fought back with a goal by Andrew Cole junior. He was in position to head the ball into the back of the net when he ran on to a long throw by Kim Harland. The visitors pressed forward in search of the equaliser, with Andrew Cole Junior and Kim Harland getting close. However the Lions made sure of the points when Matthew Lewis picked up his second goal when a long free kick bounced awkwardly to defeat the Lawrenny defence and Lewis was able to poach a goal. Reserve Division One
Carew 1 Narberth 0
This was an excellent advert for the reserve division and a draw would have been a fitting result, but when Wesley Scourfield was shown the red card 25 minutes before the end for the Bluebirds, Carew took control. Bluebirds' manager Nigel Thomas was at a loss to explain why he was sent for an early shower, but admitted that was the reason they lost. "It was a close attacking game, but the red card certainly swung it in their favour." Paul Bullock certainly wasn't complaining, as he scored the winning goal for the home side.
Reserve Division Two
Fishguard Sports 0 Kilgetty 2
This was a fine performance by Kilgetty's second string that is under new management for the new season after Barry Ormond stepped down. He's still playing, though, and secured the win in the second half with an excellent goal, leaving the home team defence in his wake as he sped past to score. Jamie Morgan got the game of to a flyer with a first half score in a game that was not as easy for Kilgetty as the scoreline suggests.
Saundersfoot Sports 7 Lawrenny 1
Saundersfoot Sports Seconds continued the impressive form they showed towards the end of last season by kicking-off the new term with a convincing home win over Lawrenny. Although the scoreline was close for most of the first half, Saundersfoot soon converted the chances their open attacking play deserved, with striker Dan Colley grabbing four fine goals and Simon Stanford's runs and finishing from the left wing earning him a hat-trick.
Saundersfoot Sports 9 Pendine 2
Where would the Seagulls have been without Ashley Eades and Steve Jones? The dynamic duo appears to score at will for Pendine's reserves, but even they couldn't prevent Saundersfoot racking up a cricket score against the hapless visitors as they produced some clinical finishing at the King George V playing fields on Saturday. Striker Tom Spencer returned to the side after missing the opening game and he took no time in settling back in, putting Saundersfoot two up going into the break. The visitors pulled a goal back early in the second half to make a game of it, but Sports soon restored their two goals advantage with a header from a corner. Pendine scored a fortunate second, before the home side went on a goal-scoring rout to end any chances of a comeback. A Richard Haines penalty and a third from Spencer contributed to the 9-2 win - the most one-sided result of the day - with Saundersfoot showing some exciting attacking football whilst remaining solid at the back.
St. Clears 4 Letterston 1
It's been a good start for the Saints' second string and this result showed why, as the young team played with enthusiasm and skill to run Letterston off the park. It was only 1-0 at the break, with Simon Bancroft opening the account, but after Letterston equalised early in the second half, there was only one team in it as the youthful home team ran riot, with Steve Jones getting the second and Matthew Baxter finishing the game off in style with two excellent scores. Rob Henley had a consolation goal for the visitors.
Lawrenny 3 Hubberston 4
Lawrenny made an impressive start and were three goals up after 30 minutes. Dean Morris opened the scoring for Lawrenny and new signing Jonathan Morse, who has moved to Lawrenny from Narberth, confirmed his quality with two excellent goals. The teenager could soon push his way into contention for a first team spot on this form. However the visitors got back into the game before the interval with gaol from Smith and Goodridge. The second half was closely contested and Hubberston levelled the scores through Burnett and a goal by Ornslow two minutes before the end of the match gave Hubberston a late winner.
Tenby 2 Camrose 3
Both Wayne Callan and the experienced Matthew Broadhurst were on target for Tenby, but gaols by Ian Harris, Dean Morgan supplemented by an own goal gave the visitors the points.
