Division One
Haverfordwest County 2 Carew 7
Carew suffered an early setback when goalkeeper Ian Kerrison received a red card for a technical offence when he collided with Haverfordwest County striker Jacek Gryka after losing his feet when attempting to cut off a scoring opportunity. The Haverfordwest team took the lead from the subsequent penalty taken by Steve Allen, although substitute goalkeeper Ian Sefton managed to get a hand to the ball. Sefton had been brought on to the field at the expense of James Buckle and teenager Mike Boswell was left as a solitary striker up front. Soon afterwards, Boswell equalised when Carew were awarded a penalty and a further goal from Boswell gave the visitors the lead. Shortly before half-time, the scores were levelled as Lee Palmer scored for Haverfordwest County. After giving as good as they got in the first half, the visitors took control in the second half. Although Carew played with only 10 men, the superior fitness of the visitors made the difference. Skipper Dean Rossiter put Carew back in the lead and then a goal from teenage striker Boswell increased the lead. Haydn Shapcott scored with a superb left-footed kick and Mike Boswell completed a fine hat-trick before he scored again, and a goal by Jimmy Thomas brought the curtain down on a match where their result has kept Carew in touch with the Division One leaders. Team manager Mike Lewis said: "It was a gutsy performance as we have not played for three weeks. We were a little rusty, but, although the pitch was on the heavy side, we tried to knock it about and play good football. "The players worked hard, but reaped the reward and as we have games in hand, the win was needed to keep us in touch with the top of the table teams."
Tenby 1 Milford United 6
In the words of Tenby spokesman Dene Hurlow: "It was the same old story. Tenby had as much possession as Milford United, but the visitors put their chances away." Milford led by four goals in the first half, two of which came from defensive errors, with the other two being excellent goals. The visitors deserved to take the lead as they played better than Tenby during this period, but the difference between the teams was not four goals. In the second half, Tenby played a lot better and were on top for most of the time, but still failed to put their chances away. For the first 25 minutes, Milford United were prevented from scoring, but scored twice in the last 20 minutes. Sam Christopher reduced the deficit after the interval and Tenby did have a purple patch during the second half and again in the words of Dene Hurlow: "Could not do anything wrong except score! The players are trying, but the quality of the finishing is letting us down. "Unfortunately our Seconds were unable to raise a team on Saturday and we must regroup within the club for the rest of the season."
Third Division Cup - first round
Lawrenny 2 Haverfordwest CC 2 (Lawrenny won 9-8 on penalties)
In an excellent game of football, the scores were level at two goals apiece after extra-time, but Lawrenny held their nerve better before winning nine-eight on penalties. It was a very good performance by the Lawrenny team, who are eighth in division three, compared with the third position of the Cricketers. It was an exciting game from start to finish and in the first half it was a game of nip and tuck. The best chance of scoring fell to Kim Harland, of Lawrenny, who broke through, but his shot from an awkward angle went across the goalmouth. The visitors tried a couple of long range efforts, but otherwise did not create many chances. Lawrenny took the lead midway through the second half with a header from close range by Kim Harland after a good through ball by Mike Jolly enabled Steve Lewis to cross the ball from the left. Danny Potter equalised for the Cricketers from a goalmouth scramble, but Lawrenny started to play again and took the lead when Harland scored again by poaching a goal when he split two defenders. After taking the lead, Lawrenny sat back a bit and a failure to clear the ball properly was punished by Danny Potter, who picked up his second goal of the match to push the game into extra-time. During the first half of extra-time, Kim Harland and Mike Jolly both came close to scoring, but in the second half, the Cricketers got on top as Lawrenny ran out of legs, but just managed to hold on for a draw. The penalty shoot-out brought out the best in the players of both teams, all of whom were on target to push it into sudden death. Again all the spot kicks were on target, but Lawrenny 'keeper Steve Cole saved the last penalty to keep Lawrenny in the cup in a nerve-racking finish.
Division Three
St. DavidS City 0 Manorbier United 5
Top versus second at the start of play saw the visitors record one of their best performances of the season to take the initiative in the Division Three title race and to take over on top of the table. Playing with the wind in the first half, Manorbier found top gear right from the off. An electric break by James Hall set up Mike Ryder for the first goal within five minutes of the start. Ten minutes later and James 'Jibby' Hall was again the tormentor, this time creating the opportunity for his brother Ben to fire home for the second. The table-toppers St. Davids responded with pressure of their own, but solid defensive work kept them at bay for the periods before and after the half-time break. After soaking up huge aerial pressure and against the wind, the Yellows finished the game as a contest in the last 20 minutes when James Hall was put through on the halfway line by Mike Ryder. In a superb finish, Hall beat the last defender, rounded the 'keeper and sealed the win. As the Saints' heads dropped, Mike Ryder took advantage of some sublime skill from Ashley Murdoch to score a super individual goal for the fourth, and Murdoch slammed in the fifth to add polish to the scoreline from a Simon Bolton cross. It was a super team performance by the Yellows, with two-goal hero Mike Ryder quick to compliment his team mates, especially the defence, for their solid and unselfish displays under pressure.
St. Florence 0 Letterston 3
There is little to choose between the teams in the league, but Letterston were the stronger side in the first half and built up a lead of two goals, scored by Geraint Mathias and Karl Headley. The Saints were a much-improved team in the second half and created plenty of chances, but failed to score in difficult conditions. Letterston increased their lead when Mathias picked up his second goal of the match. For St. Florence, Liam Culshaw, who has joined the club from Manorbier, had a good game on the right and Gareth Whittle was impressive in defence.

Carew 0 Herbrandston 2
For the second match in succession this was a poor performance by the Carew team. Herbie took the lead after 10 minutes with a goal by Tim Griffiths and were two goals up five minutes later when Ricky Howells scored from a free-kick wide on the left when he curled the ball into the top corner. In the second half, Carew lifted their game and Sam Goodwin came close to scoring. Substitute Joe Kidney caused problems for the visitors in only his second game for Carew and did have a shot on goal which was saved by the Herbie keeper. Reserve Division One
Narberth 5 Clarbeston Road 1
While the majority of the football teams in our county were having yet another enforced rest due to the adverse weather conditions of the past fortnight, Narberth Seconds were having a ball at home against Clarbeston Road. Mike Beynon was the hero of the day; his four goals setting the tone for a comfortable victory on paper, although assistant manager Adrian Howells said it was anything but, in real time. "You could say it was a comfortable win, but you have to give Clarbie some credit. They were a young side and were full of running and they caused us a few problems at times. They just couldn't put the ball away, but we deserved the win and Beynon was outstanding all afternoon." Indeed he was. He scored two goals in the first half as the Bluebirds opened up a 2-0 lead at the break and scored two more after the interval. He completed his hat-trick with a penalty after Huw Vaughan was fouled in the box and added a fourth for good measure by completing the rout with the team's fifth goal as the game neared completion. The other goal scorer of the afternoon was Liam Woodford, who gave the visiting 'keeper no chance with a powerful shot midway through the half. Clarbeston Road did manage a consolation goal by Sion Price, but by the time it went in there was only going to be one winner and that was the home side. Reserve Division Two
Manorbier Utd 2 St. Clears 1
Saints spokesman Rob Phillips was naturally disappointed to lose this one as he admitted that two silly mistakes allowed the home side in for victory. All of the goals were scored in the first half as Manorbier opened up a 2-0 lead as Rob Sawyer and Ceri Worcester led the way with a goal apiece. Nigel Price scored for the Saints and thought he had earned his team a draw with a second, before the referee disallowed it after he deemed that the striker had handled the ball. "Even the Manorbier players thought it was a goal," said Phillips. "But the referee had other ideas. If it had stood we would have got a draw", which is what we deserved and who knows, we could even had snatched a win, but sadly it wasn't to be."
